Hoon to Hartside (busy) - new traffic sign seen. . .

Despite having a brilliant drive out the day before to Rothbury, the weather was just too good not to set out in the Zed again today, so we decided to mix it with the bikers on the Hartside run (if you like bikes it's a fabulous experience on a busy day). On the way there were temporary signs warning of slow moving horse drawn vehicles. Of course - it then dawned on us that Appleby was due and sure enough we came across a couple of gypsy caravans being driven over the roads to Alston - something to watch out for if you are in the area - quite a differential in closing speeds and how the horses put up with some of the bike engine noises heaven knows.

Not many other cars in this photo but we did leave just after a TVR Tomara which had set off on the way to Melmerby - on catching him up there then followed some of the most enjoyable driving I've had for some time right to the end of the descent on the west side. The Zed did extremely well and a 'Sunday driver' even had the presence of mind to pull over to let us both through which sums up the experience - magic! No idea who he was in the TVR but hope he enjoyed the drive down as much as we did! :D
