Hooking up an ipod to my Z4??

So now to the drawbacks of the DICE unit:

You still have to have your songs in playlists. But you can have as many playlists as you want or make them as big as you want. Then you can navigate by playlist, album, or song. Unfortunately, only the song title is displayed. 3. It’s hard to install. My mechanic had the entire car apart! ...

No you don't have to use the playlist, i usually just set the IPOD to Shuffle and then use the left or right arrow buttons to forward to the next song. Using the playlist you always start a the begining and hear the same songs in the same order, shuffle is much better you get a different song every time. I did the trunk installation, except for not being able to fit my shoulders in the trunk :x and having large hands :P the installation was about as hard as installing speakers in a car.

With regard to playlist order, if you configure your ipod to shuffle albums this will play them back in a random order, although it will always play the same album first.

the way round this is to have a 1 second track called a__ by artist a__ and on album a__, as a result after it plays this 1 second album, it will pick the next one at random

I am having trouble getting my icelink iPod to randomize the play order. I'd like to know how to configure the iPod, itself, to shuffle albums/artists/songs within playlist. I've tried but just can;t get the hang of it. Thanks.

Hi Guys.... Thanks for the really informative thread, but i've got a quick question which takes he ipod interface to a new level.

I'm looking at the Dension Gateway 300 which does the business. Add to that the Gateway 300 CD Retention Kit and the AV Extender (see ipodcarkitdirect.com), and it looks like a great solution for professional interface with the ipod. However, the Gateway 300 allows for ipod Video signal to be sent, which sounds the business. I went to a local audio shop for advice, and they suggest I need a specific BMW aux interface lead which costs £280 alone.....more than the entire Dension kit. This additional cost is just for the video input apparently.

Has anyone else successfully added video to their ipod installation and is this part necessary.

Thanks in advance from this Newbie who's lovin the new forum and will try to contribute more in future.

Looks like the resetting issue I've had with my DICE is NOT normal. My new one is already on the way and should have it in a few days. After I try it out I'll post again so I can alleviate any worries about quality/interface that my other post may have created.
