Well thanks to you guys on the forum I have managed to source a motor at a sensible price, and find invaluable information, not least from Shipkillers great PDFs, and go on to complete the job.
I wouldnt describe it as easy but if I had to do it again ( which I might!) it would probably take half as long. It took me a day and a half, basically because I had to remove it after installation because the roof would only move forward both using the motor and the bypass. Once out of the car using a 12v battery I was able to get it to move both ways. I am not sure what the problem was but I put the hood back in the car and it seems to works as new.
On the slightly downside using the bypass handle, the roof closes fine however only opens about just over halfway. If you completely open the hood with the moter then use the bypass you can fully close the hood (hood up) Not sure about this and maybe only an issue if the motor fails again! I did not want to force it down and am happy for now that the electric hood go up and down and locks in place, fingers crossed it will stay that way. Any clues as to why this is happening?
I sealed the motor casing with silicon and I also made a small hole in the bottom just in case if water does get in again it can flow out.
Where the motor housing attaches to the hood frame the original pump had a plastic tie holding it on as well as the screw. I think this happened post factory. I put one on the new pump also. I think it has been put on as a secondary message in case the motor popped off the screw. If I was doing the job again I would buy a new plastic motor cover. Like in most cases my old one was full of water and the motor of the pump was full of black silt.
I bought the hydraulic kit (£40) ..very expensive for four copper washers and plastic tie strips. The kit also included two banjo bolts (the main bolts that go through the hydraulic lines) into the pump
