Hood issues advice needed

I have posted about hood motor issues but just to satisfy myself as I understand that if I twist the red handle I will be able to raise and lower the hood by hand using the hood switches to lock/unlock the roof from the windscreen with out causing damage.

Am I correct in that assumption pleaase
