Hole in sump

Hi
Yesterday I saw an oil patch on the floor where my car had been.. To day I took a look. I took the sump guard off and I saw oil on the guard and round the sump, I gave it a wipe and saw some rusty bubbles. I gave them a little tap and to my surprise oil started to come out. So the sump has rusted through. The car is only an 06.Does anyone know if I can claim under the 12 year warranty on body rust? I have never had a rusted sump before and I have been driving for 50 years. At one time I could only afford old bangers and never had this problem

Don't think you will find it will be covered under the corrosion warranty. Did you have a BMW warranty, if so when did it end. Best bet is some good will, but I'm doubting BMW will be interested.

Only standard 3 years [I think] Parks in Glasgow will not take anything off for being a BMW car club member ,So I don't think there will be much good will there That's the nearest one to me as I live out in the sticks.

Only a novice with 49 years and like you I had never seen a sump rusted thro 'til I inherited my father in laws fiesta for my daughter to learn in a few years ago.
Now I've got a pot hole in my Tarmac drive because of it :x

If its one small area drop oil, remove sump and have small plate either welded or brazed over perforated area, new sump gasket and your away, much cheaper than new sump. cheers Baz

I have already bought the sump the problem is getting it off even if I going to weld it would still have to come off. It looked badly pitted and I was not going to risk a weld.
Sump/gasket and bolts £ 381. :o Thats the price you have to pay if you want something special

I think you've done it properly!

It's only the differance between a new sump pan and the cost of welding and patching the old one !
