Hi guys been out tonight in the z but hit a curb head on... dark unlit road and didnt see it

No Damage that I can see to car body wheels or tyres, but can I check to see if I have damaged anything.. car pulls straight upto 70ish mph and no vibrations etc... brakes in a straight line too..soo chances I got away with it or best to take it to check the car out professionally

Cheers

Chris

Ooh sounds like one of those heart stopping moments, had a couple with potholes. If anything, in good light, check the tyres and wheels. The tyres may be damaged on the sidewalls, look for cracks creases or bulges (or have a local garage check them). The wheels, check them in good light for bends or cracks on the inner edge where they're less well supported. Again perhaps a local garage can look them over or spin them up and check etc.

I'd be more concerned about the tyres if the car still behaves ok. These run flats are a PITA, and a wollop like that could damage the sidewalls in a way not immediately 'feel able'. All depends how bad it was really, 10mph, 20mph, 30mph etc... more speed+higher curb = more likely to damage.

If you're worrying or in any doubt, go spend £20 at the garage to have them check the wheels and tyres. Well worth it should they be damaged, life in your own hands n all that.

It was only the drivers side, and must of been doing maximum 10mph as I was a bit lost and trying to work out which way to go!

It was the horrible bang what have I hit thats not a nice feeling

Tyre damage I can cope with as I have tyre insurance, but suspension damage/tracking is a pain in the ****

If it were me, i would have my alignment checked just in case.

Ouch...
If you hit a kerb at 10mph, even 5 mph, it's almost certain to have damaged the rim and tyre. Def do as posted above and have the wheel taken off and check for dents, bulges, etc. if ok check the tyres again in 100 miles in case the structure was damaged and it take as while to emerge.

Watch for uneven tyre wear as you may well have knocked tracking out or bent some suspension components.

Thanks guys, will get the wheel off tomorrow in daylight and have a look,

Is there anyway to check for suspension damage etc without a pro...going to be about a week before I can get to get it checked out

Its pulling straight at high speeds etc

If its major you'll see it. But its likely you'll not see anything wrong with the suspension even if there is damage, you'll need garage kit to inspect it/measure etc properly. In other words, let the experts with the right kit check it out. TBH, while my own experience doesn't bear this out, cars are pretty strong and its likely fine as the wheel and tyre will have taken most of the impact.

Hopefully this is the case, I only have 17" wheels, So wont be as much stress as the guys with the 19s

Agree that the suspension is unlikely to have anything visible wrong. 17" rims with associated higher profile tyres will have taken far more of the shock anyway than 18's

Thanks guys, I agree that 19s look good, but I am too stupid to be allowed them on my car...tonight proves that :o

I managed to take an hour out for lunch and got booked into my local tyre place which has the hunter laser 4 wheel tracking.

I had nocked the camber out slightly on the back and the toe on the front??

But all done now, no visable damage to the car but £50.00 lighter

If anyone in the north east needs a good tracking place, try Tyre Exchange at Preston Farm Stockton, Nice guys even let me have a look round while they did it!

Good move to do that and be safe. You've also most likely prevented premature wear on the tyres by correcting the settings

Agreed a 4 wheel laser check is a must. Even on my PX I always get the dealer to do one (no not that) and supply the details. The tyres are so expensive at 200+ each premature ware could cost 4 tyres in half the time. so £50 is a good deal, its over 100 from dealer.
