2nd at 7000rpm is about 70mph iirc, maybe 73mph ish, so considering the clutch engagement time, and blending of engine speed into road speed, you may have over-revved, but I'm thinking you cut it close.
All depends what the actual speeds etc were.
I can't imagine 7000rpm would damage the M54 (which I assume it is), even less so in the B25 which has less engine inertia for the same crank/bearings (iirc)
Are you sure it's running weird, or are you just thinking it is because of what you did? My car "feels" faster when I turn the radio up to drown out the engine for example hehe
