High-beam assistant (FLA) retrofit

Hello everyone,

Just to give a little bit of context my car was produced in 06/2009 and came with a standard rear-view mirror(only alarm diode) and rain sensor. I would to retrofit the high-beam assistant, I did some research and found that I would need a new rear-view mirror and a new plastic cover to make it fit. I was happy because I found a second-hand mirror for pennies and a brand new cover from bmw dealer that cost like 10 euros. So I’ve looked into the factory service repair manual to check how to remove the rear-view mirror. It explains that there are some special steps required when replacing the mirror with FLA for vehicles from build date 09/2009 onward.

Does this mean that my z4 cannot be retrofitted with FLA? Is it something related to FRM2/FRM3 module? I was planning to retrofit LCI headlights so retrofitting FRM3 would be required anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, have a good day/evening guys.

Lucky you. It was an option from 2010. BMW give nothing away!
Does it mean that it won’t work even after coding car year to e.g. 2010?

Std. rear view mirror is crap with the roof down.
The one I plan to retrofit is also electrochromatic, to be exact part number is 51169225981. I hope my car will be pre-wired, is there a way to check it other than disassembly?

Reference wiring for options and variants..

In some cases the wiring is in place, but certainly for example audio systems have unique wiring harnesses..

Whether there is a point in the harness where you can replace a section with an updated section I don’t know..

FWIW seems a lot of faff for the odd time you have to use the dip, switch… :tumbleweed:
