HIDs and MOTs

Without wanting to open up a can of worms, has anyone had experience of the Z, HIDs and getting through the MOT?

I used to run them on a TVR Griffith and a Lotus Elise, I never had a problem with either until last year. I sold the Elise, but the TVR failed on no beam pattern. It does have "normal" lights on it, rather than projectors.

As the Z's have projectors, no beam pattern save for the angled cut off, would HID dipped pass MOT, or would it be a case of switching out the burners for standard bulbs before MOT? this is what I did on the last TVR MOT.

A crisp, clear, angled cut off would be what the MOT inspectors are looking for.
Reflector headlights would find it very difficult to achieve this as they tend to scatter the light.

Ah, cool. I thought so. I think I shall make the switch, it's not that hard to get it switched back anyhow. The lights are not great. I think I'll do the dipped and fogs, and add in a set of LED sidelights. I'll leave the mains so I can retain a flash and just put in some OSRAMs or Phillips bulbs.

I Wouldn't expect a car with normal headlights to pass because of the beam patter but my CTR and my Z4 both have projector headlights and they always pass with correct beam pattern.

No problem with mine early this year, was even MOT'd at a main dealer!
