HID Xenon Light Temperatures?

Hi All,

Just wondering what the factory BMW xenon light temperature is that comes with car fitted with xenon lights. I have been looking at the 4300K, 5000K, 6000K and 8000K versions and I don't really know which is closest to that you see on factory fitted cars.

I believe the standard BMW Xenon is 4500K, I have the 4300K fitted on mine and they are terrific,

Do not fall into the trap of the higher the K the brighter the light, the K is the Kelvin scale, the higher the number the bluer they get, see link below

Thanks for the post 'Rusty'. Does anyone have any pictures of their car with HID Xenon lights fitted? Just so I've got a rough idea of what the different temperatures look like :)
 
Great link, thank you! I was watching a Utube clip of how to install an HID kit and it showed the power cable being connected to the battery under the bonnet (obvious I know). However, the Z4's battery is in the boot... Surly the HID Xenon kit I'm looking at doesn't have a hugely long cable to reach all the way to the boot?

Any ideas?
 
Just a couple of observation:

There shoudl be no need to connect anything to the battery. As a general rule that's bad practice in any event and feeds shoudl be taken off the fuse box or an appropriate weight and fused cable. I can't see why you would not be taing the feed from the headlight as that's fused and switch controlled.

The ballasts shoudl be mounted down with the headlight snot somewhere that the HT lead could ever be touched ie under the bonnet or on the inner wings.

Personally I'd put the whole lot inside the headlight. Not fitted xenons but have fitted CCFL AE in there with planty of space and no holes in the case.

Yep, exactly correct as I believe it too. I've got a 50w (instead of the usual 35w) 4300k kit in mine and absolutely 'brilliant'...
 
Out of curiosity those of you who believe the standard BMW is 4500k do you have anything substantive to show it? All I have seen are generic references to all OEM being in the 4100 to 4300 range.

Not disagreeing - I just like certainty.

To be fair, Just talking to one of the BMW guys at my local dealer, but when I see a BMW with xenon the colour for that K range seems about right, certainty it is not :D
 
I have received my HID Kit and it says in the manual that the ballasts create alot of heat. Will it be safe to mount them inside the headlamp casing? :(

Might be worth asking in that thread - they were installed as you intend to.

Going to try fit mine this weekend - but mine came with no instructions!
