HID Headlight "Winking" ?

Yesterday I was fiddling with the headlight switch.
Canadian cars have daytime running lights.
So I was waiting on SWMBO and could see the car's reflection in the windows.
I switched to the various settings to confirm what they actually did.
Well I left the setting in automatic and then turned the car off.
When re-started the right side headlight didn't turn on.
I turned the car off and re-started ..And the light worked fine.
Again today the light didn't come on til I re-started ..

At least the thing works ...
When it feels like ...
Any tips ..
These new fangled headlight have warning stickers !

Could be any one of the components going bad. Try swapping sides of one of them and see if the symptom changes sides. The igniter is probably the easiest to swap. The culprit will reveal itself eventually as various bits are swapped. Be sure to disconnect the battery and let the system sit for a while before doing anything with the components. The voltages involved are high enough to kill, though more likely it'd just be a very painful lesson. You'll certainly want to avoid either experience.

Thanks for the diagnostic strategy.
Plus the warning about sudden death !
Mucg appreciated
