New to to BMW, Z4's and this forum! Just bought my 2008/9 Z4 Coupe with 115k miles and in Auto (would have preferred manual but I'll live with it).

Originally planned to use it as a bit of a project car (having previously messed around with motorbikes). However, honestly it's a bit too nice to ruin, so plans have changed and I'll just be bringing it up to date (Bluebus, cruise control, sorting out a few electronic bits, and then just a general renewal of areas that are starting to show it's age).

In typical UK fashion, it hasn't stopped raining since I got it. So my current picture set consists of the dealers photo's and one in an Asda car park from the way home. I'll get some more once things brighten up a little.

Also considering doing a muffler delete would be interested in peoples experiences? (too loud?)

Is there a way to do it so it's easy to swap back and forth? I figured cut the existing stuff off and then modify stuff to use clamps rather than welding it back on. At least until I'm happy I wouldn't want to go back.

Great looking car, especially with the sun protection glass and CSLs! Cruise control is an also good retrofit. Sorry - no experience with a muffler delete but I'm sure someone on here would know how it sounds...

Welcome 😀
The Coupe is probably the best looking car BMW ever made - and then they only go and produce it for 3 years or so!
Bringing it back up to date is the right approach as the value of good ones is only going one way.

There is so much knowledge and support here to assist your project.
I would suggest rather than deleting silencers, why not get a custom system when you are ready. A good specialist can give you a system that is subdued when cruising but really lets rip when you open her up.
Also look up whether you have the sound generator and what you can do with that (it's free and takes 5 minutes)! 🙂

I've seen the sound generator thing (if you mean removing one of the foams between the cabin and the engine?). I think it's already been done but on my list to check when we get a dry day.

Good point about the custom system, I figured worst case I cut out the muffler, learn a few skills (local rent a ramp place will help me DIY) and then if I'm not happy I'll take it to a specialist for something more complete.

Hi, welcome to the forum and Coupe ownership.

I've heard a 3.0Si Roadster with a back box delete and I wouldn't want to drive it more than a few miles, so I think a custom system might be a better idea! Either that or some people have opened up the back box and removed some of the contents for a bit more volume.
