HI everyone, been viewing the forum for a while and not been put off an E89. Spent a while looking and finally found a 28K miles one owner full BMW history 09 model in blue with the white leather pack. Paid a bit more than I wanted as its a 23i not a 30 but so far so great - love the straight 6 sound and the looks - even warming to the wheels which were not my first choice for looks - but then these ones don't seem to crack?

Had a 4 wheel alignment done to reduce tramlining but cannot justify replacing the RFT just yet! A 1500+ mile tour of Scotland this autumn even had my wife glad we bought the thing - after many miles on the back of my 2 wheel BM's. Car is wonderful at making every trip an event and even happy with the 2.5 - which is in reality fast enough for me most of the time. The white leather (especially the suede inserts in the seat back) is nevertheless proving to be a dirt magnet for a scruff like me. Be interested in any recommendations as to what is best to clean it with? Car needs a good polish and a few surface scratches from jewellery opening rear boot etc buffed out but otherwise - I love it! Will try to work out how to post pics from my iphone to here asap.

In the meantime, love the chat - and your pics!

Hello and welcome.
A 2009 with 28k miles and one owner is a find.
Got any pics? The forum likes pics.

Hi and welcome aboard.

At a guess yuor car will be Deep Sea Blue which is a great colour especially with the white leather interior. My first two Z4s had Pearl Grey leather and I just used leather wipes to keep it clean - and avoided wearing new jeans in it!

While it may be a 23i it's still a straight 6, and finding one with FSH and just 28K miles sounds like a great result.

Did anyone mention photos yet?

Thanks - found some pics. Day 1 in the garage on pick up - other pics show it a bit more "used" on our trip to Scotland and via Lake District - but just love the way it looks and goes - clean or dirty!

Hi and welcome to the forum, that’s certainly a nice looking Zed and a great colour combination, it’s also very low mileage for its age so hopefully won’t give you any trouble.

Very nice ..good combo of colours and those wheels suit it..enjoy it..should offer many miles n years of enjoyment :driving:

Hello and welcome, a low mileage 23i, what’s not too like and should hopefully give you many low cost miles

Your car looks fantastic.

Thanks everyone for your kind words - my first Z - and spent hours looking but seems a keeper to me. Agree with Mr Tidy - wore some denim and ended up having to wipe the leather down (who knew) - anyone experience of the BMW leather care stuff and its use on the white "suede?" The problem with a good car to start is that I cannot blame anyone else for it deteriorating! Interested to hear about preventative maintenance as low mileage can mean probs - though everything works for now - but noted the discussion about hood every decade and wondering if to replaces switches etc. Right now have a 12 month warranty but starting to wonder who would you use for works around E Mids/Northants? Keen to keep inspection I and II via BMW (given its got that so far) but everything else I would hope to use an indy for? Any suggestions?

Hi, regular oil and brake fluid changes ( I get my local BMW dealer to do it, only 2.5 miles away and they always check the car over), check the age of the battery (if its the original battery date stamp on negative post), change the two roof relays (only about £16 each). Mines the same age and only a few more miles than yours, been very reliable and economical to own. In the 7 years I've had it the only things I've had to replace (apart from serviceable items and tyres) are the rear brake shoes and both rear springs. Having a garage has been a major benefit and keeping it on a trickle charger.

Thanks Zed Barron - did you change the switches yourself - noted advice on forum about that. Also the loom? I am lucky to have a garage too so it can sit out the worst of winter under cover. Noted advice on the trickle charger - I have several (as I have bikes too) but there seem to be a range of methods of connecting (under bonnet, boot etc).

did you change the switches yourself
Yes I did, I think it was Smartbear that pointed everyone in the right direction on these. Order the relays from your local BMW dealer, don't have to disconnect the battery or anything, really simple job... even I could do it! :o
Yes trickle charger connect under the bonnet, the positive is marked with a red plastic cover up towards the windscreen scuttle and the negative goes to a stud on the drivers side suspension turret.

Hi Zed Baron, I've been trawling for hours trying to work out whether to trickle charge mine by using the points under the bonnet as you seem to or direct to the battery in the boot but I'm still not much clearer as it seems either will do the trick (I think !). I bought a trickle charger but the cables were too short to reach to the positive and negative so returned it, what charger do you use ??
