Hi from Essex - New to me 2009 sDrive 30i

Yours is an SE spec (hence the small wheels) but with optioned M-sport seats (which look to be heated). Never driven an SE E89, but they have better springs than the horrendously stiff M-sport ones, especially noticeable with bigger wheels.

The ivory interior with the 'wood' is the same combo as my old F31. I liked it, even though mine had 'deck chair' spec seats. I didn't get on with the F31, though.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yes they are the sports seats and heated. My e85 3.0i had the m-sport supsension, albeit aged, and it was a bit crashy. The handling of the E89,. from the little I have driven in Sport mode feels amazing, much better than the e85. I am planning to change the suspension to the Bilsein B12 Pro kit down the line (I have the same on my TT), though that's just in the back of mind at the moment, just got the car.

I don't even know how to open the fuel cap yet (though I assume it just unlocks with the car the same as the e85)! l am getting on a bit, so the interior now matches my demeanour ;)

It feels like it would be a nice GT car.

Shame you didnt like the F31, always hear they are great cars.

Looks beautiful, love the interior and the N52 engine is a real peach.

My first e89 was a manual 30i - I was convinced it was going to hold its value and be sought after in years to come, I think I just didn't wait long enough!

Mine was the SE with 17 inch wheels as well - sooooo so much more comfortable than the 35is, even on runflats, but on the other hand there was no point even trying to have fun in the twisted.

B12 kit is supposedly the best of both worlds so probably a very good choice.

Hi and welcome to the forum, that’s a lovely looking Z4 you have and in a great colour combination.

Thank you for all the replies.

And thank you RobbiZ4 for making me aware and more paranoid about all roof related stuff than I ever anticpated AFTER buying the car!

Last week I wrapped the motor foam housing in a plastic bag as recommended by RobbiZ4 , it was pretty dry in there but there was evidence of some water ingress. I cleaned it all out. I changed the salmon relays with new from BMW, the old were dated 2011 so deffo needed changing. I have gummi phledged all the seals. and have new hall sensors x2 (the cheaper mk2 ones that need connectors), roof struts (will try ratchet straps for pre tention), and boot struts on their way. These are all the OEM (Stabilus) spec ones.

Took the car for a 50 mile drive today and it was lovely. I did get concerned as the coolant guage reached 110c, I have since learned this is an OIl guage (BMW thing) rather than a water coolant guage wich I am used to on the TT and the temp is normal when on the motorwaay in sports mode, was fine once I slowed into traffic. Also finally tested the roof, it got stuck last time I checked as I had a small box in the right hand side. Thankfully it opened and closed 4 times without issue this time, albeit a slightly heavy clunk placing the rear into the back, hence the struts.

Anyway, it's been a scary few days, just the worry of things that haven't happened yet to be honest (Thanks RobbiZ4). The fact that the roof opens and closes fine is a relief so far after it didn't when I had an obstruction, just want to carry on with the preventitive stuff to make my head space feel better :)

Will take me at least 6 months to get used to the car.

Thank you all.
