Hello !

Have been the proud owner of a 2004 Z4 2.2 SE for a couple years now, great fun for the summer, although having just bought a Focus ST as my daily the Z4 no longer feels so quick !! Can't beat the Z4 for looks though.

Have been having a couple of issues more recently so hoping to dig around on the forum and see if I can find some answers.
I suspect they're probably caused by serious damp as I have a MAJOR water leak in the boot - my seatbelt warning goes off randomly when I don't have a passenger, my alarm intermittently goes off for no reason...etc

Anyway, here's a pic having just washed and polished it ready for a summer that will probably not materialise :lol:

Thank you for the welcomes :) I didn't realise they were E89 alloys, learnt something already, cheers !!

I should've joined much earlier...joined an ST forum in Jan and have learnt so much there, and even managed to help a couple other members along the way, so hoping it'll be a similar experience here too :)
 
The seat belt warning could be a seat occupancy sensor problem do you have access to a fault code reader? If it is a sensor there is a cheap bypass plug in available on ebay
 
Thanks jabber that's handy to know ! I don't have a fault code reader but the dealer I bought it from has diagnosed the fault codes free of charge so far so I'll ask them to check it for me :)

Easy enough to find & disconnect , bonnet up stand central looking up the engine , where the diagonal strutbraces meet at the bulkead there is the sensor :thumbsup:
 
Hi and welcome. Car looks great - thanks for the pic. Looks like an unmolested specimen - has a whippy aerial?

Sorry that I cannot help with your electrical gremlins. If you don't know how the raging torrents are entering your boot I would check that the drain holes are free. I have read in here that if they get blocked enough the water sloshes around where the roof motor sits (on the left) and then spills into the boot. Worth checking anyway as the roof motor doesn't improve in those conditions.

Thanks RickRob, aerial is above the rear arch and about 12" or so long, not sure if that counts as whippy ?

Roof motor was replaced and re-sealed shortly before I bought it and drain holes recently checked/cleared.
I also had the central brake light resealed a few months back. I suspect it's either the main boot seal or the one at the bottom of the roof, it's really gushing in, battery compartment fills to the brim with a couple days heavy rain and all the boot carpets are sodden right through, I really need to get it booked in and sorted as the seats, seatbelts, steering wheel etc were starting to grow mould after the very wet winter :|
 
12 inches is a whippy - stubbies are about 3". :o

I'm sure I've read that water can get in around the rear light clusters - but wherever it is getting in if the battery compartment gets full you really need to get it sorted sooner rather than later!
 
Ah ok didn't know they did different lengths, afraid I'm a bit ignorant on most aspects of Z4's, I just knew I had to have one :lol:

I'll book it in for the latter part of this month, must admit it is steadily ruining the car which is a shame cos the outside is stunning and I was especially lucky to get my favourite interior:-

Battery is new, had to replace it last year as I was getting complete cut-outs which was found to be a faulty cell in the (remarkably) original battery. Having said that, just because it's only 6mnths old doesn't mean I haven't got a dud so worth getting it tested I guess to be sure

I take it you are not putting anything heavy on the passenger seat (shopping) that would set it off, and the alarm could be the bonnet alarm, its well known for this, easy and fairly inexpensive to change
