Hey,

I just bought my first Z4 today, picking it up in a week or so after the finance is sorted and bluetooth kit is fitted - a 2008 2.0i SE with 74k on the clock

I'm coming from a Skoda fabia greenline so this is going to be a bit of a change ;) but the arrival of a company car has changed my priorities and I thought now's the time to get one whilst I don't need something practical.

My first BMW and first 'sports' car - does anyone have any top tips that I should be aware of? anything super obvious accessory wise or upgrades? - i've heard a wind deflector is a solid buy.

Just hoping the weather gets better soon so I can enjoy getting my top down! ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum. This marvelous place will soon have you loving your Zed even more that you thought possible. The wind deflector is great, mine has been in place since about a week after I bought the car 4 years ago. :thumbsup:

You'll be wanting four tailpipes and an M\\\ bonnet soon too. :?

I expect JohnyE will be along soon to offer some more useful advise. :D

A few comments: if you're coming from a Skoda Fabia (good car I've had one and two Octavias - all estates) you may not be used to rear wheel drive cars. If you don't know the difference then read up and get an idea, if you do, then you have a very capable sports car which will corner brilliantly, if driven well.

Looks like you have an SE version of the 2 litre. This will have a better ride and cheaper costing tyres than the 2.0i Sport as the tyres are all the same width / higher profile and not staggered as they are on the sport (255 35 18 rears 225 40 18 fronts). If comfort and costs are important then leave the tyres as they are - if you have the money then buying a staggered set of 18 inch wheels works well. 19 inch wheels have a tendency to crack on our pot holed roads.

The 4 cylinder engine is very smooth and a good performer if used at high revs, especially in 2nd and 3rd. You will need to hang onto the gears to make the most of the performance. My 2.0i Sport took such use time after time, and just kept coming back for more. The tick-over can be a little lumpy but this is normal. The 2 litre is a very under-estimated Zed and great fun on back roads and the twisties.

Do you have sport seats? If not you can swop, though they can be expensive.

I loved my 2 litre Zed - hope you enjoy yours as much. :thumbsup:

yeah it's the 2.0i SE - yeah, not driven a rear wheeled drive car before - only had hatchbacks and a Proton Gen 2 (don't ask!) before ;) - i'm definitely going to be taking it easy to start with to get used to it.

I#m also coming from Diesels so I think it'll take me a bit to get used to keeping my revs and getting the best out of the engine - but it'll be fun learning ;)

I was impressed by the low road noise on my test drive, although I didn't get it up to full speed - looking forward to having a play :)
