Hi All! First weekend of Z4 ownership!

Evening!

After a 6 month search for a Z3 M Roadster, and having seen dog after dog after dog - I decided to take the more sensible option and go for a Z4... So far I am not regretting it one bit! :D

I picked the car up on Saturday morning, she is a Dec 2003 Z4 3.0i SE with only 31,000 miles on the clock. I'm not sure which of these are options are standard and which aren't yet, but she has the following toys:

Multi-function steering wheel (leather looks brand new, very matte)
iPod cable
Heated seats
Auto dimming mirrors
Xenons
Auto lights
Headlight washers
Wind deflector
Electric memory seats
CD changer
Extended storage
Immaculate 18" Ellipsoid alloys

A few of the above weren't even listed on the sellers advert (which I was quite pleased about)! :D

The wind deflector is missing the middle (and most important :headbang: ) bit, so I will need to have a hunt around here and on eBay to see if there are any for sale...

I have read many reviews and watched Top Gear clips about how harsh the sports suspension is on these, but I have to say I don't find it too bad, it is a sports car after all! Also, touch wood, the car is completely rattle free so far!

I am not looking to do any major modifications, I would ideally like to keep the car as standard as possible. I will be ordering a cruise control stalk from BMW in the next few weeks as this seems to be a cheap and super easy mod.

I would also like to end up having front head light and rear light indicators clear, instead of orange, which I think is the only thing that makes the car look a little dated. I haven't been able to find ready made clear head/rear lights anywhere for sale on the internet or in BMW magazines, and all I can find on here are journals of peoples DIY fittings (which look amazing); where can I get these from without doing them myself?

The cars BMW warranty ended in December 2009, although when I log into the BMW website using the login details on the renewal letter in the cars history file it states the policy doesn't expire until March 2010? Should I consider renewing this at just over £400. The car has a specialist service stamp in the book so am not sure if the car is even applicable now?

Below are a few pics of the car from the sellers advert - I'll try and take some of my own once it stops raining :x

You can phone BMW regarding the Insured Warranty. I think you can still renew the warranty provided that the specialist garage had used genuine BMW parts and carried out services properly.

The only modification you really need is the M Sports seats. :)

Lovely example - almost identical in every aspet to the one I started with (aside manual box and sat nav)

Only the auto dimming mirror is standard - rest options (although I'd need to check memory seats on the 3.0i as they may have been standard. Some come with other options - eg xenon gets you washers.
The centre of the windbreak comes up often on ebay. Great if you already have the rails fitted so set up a search.

Front clears - sorry DIY or buy 2005 clear at a premium. Rears - search ebay for some aftermarket or mod them

Welcome.

I thought on a 3.0 SE spec you would have auto lights, headlight washers (which are part of xenons anyway) and electric seats as standard.

HAve you checked the windbreak isnt stowed away in its bootlid holder? Thats where i leave mine - makes it much easier to drive at night without it.

Checked and xenon were an option, but headlamp washers were standard on the 3.0

Thanks - I've been on the phone to BMW this morning to get a print out of the original specification when new, but so far have been given 4 different numbers to call (all agents too busy to speak to me at the moment!) and the latest number starts 0906 (ie. £1 per minute!!) I think I will just go into my local dealers when I get the chance...

I did mine last week when the car was in for a service, the guy in the parts department did it for me. Probably better than paying for a phone call, took in only a few moments.
