Not a great start to the morning:

Luckily it's not too bad, seems to be just one panel damaged as the bumper scrapes should polish out. Any idea how hard it is to fit a new panel, is it a welding job? Even though I'm fairly sure it was his fault I'd rather avoid going through insurance if possible as it's only cosmetic. The panel had a small dent over the wheel arch anyway so would have been done eventually.

Also does anybody know the coupe/roadster rear quarters are the same?

gutting :(

Panel is just bolted on, and is fairly easy, as long as you actually know where to look for a couple of the bolts.

Thats very good of you!!

Its a bolt on part I think I know it is on the roadster. And i am 90% sure it is on a coupe. The panels are different so you will need a coupe panel. Its a pain in the bum job to do on a roadster cant see it being any easier on a coupe !!

Your ok and the car will be fixed could be much worse

Well that's a relief, happy to have a go at bolting one on. Just need to find a panel now, preferably in the right colour!

Might be easier on a coupe as the roof doesnt get in the way. Get yourself a copy of BMW TIS of ebay as this will have the instructions you need.

Will give you the opportunity to get that lacquer peel sorted as well.

I swapped over the boot on my roadster over the weekend, was an easier job than I thought for one man.

Good quality body shop will pull that out, better to keep original panel - well repaired and you'll never know.

Top end Body shop by me would do the repair if you're midlands based / passing through. PM for details ....

I think the dent would pull out, but there is paint chipped in the area and as somebody else said the lacquer was already peeling in the corner, so even if pulled out it needs a respray. Seems to make more sense to replace the panel to me (with an OEM one of course.)

+1 on keeping the original panel, especially if you could only find a replacement in a different colour & so you'd be into painting anyway, a decent body shop will fix that so you'd never know.
