Hey all

Hello Stranger.......how's the training going?
Are you making an appearance at the "National" this year?...be good to see you again.

Hi Ste,

Good to hear from you - only about 6000 posts to catch up on! :lol

We're doing much the same as last year up in the North East. (So far haven't needed our wellies and cagoules for a rain meet yet!)

Hope to catch up with you on a run some time.

All the best, Paul and Steph.

:driving:

Christ I really haven't been on here in a while... Didn't get offered a commission in the end, completed the selection course at RAF Cranwell which should have been the final stage but then received this letter the back end of September:

One of them things eh, dust yourself down and pick yourself back up :)

Damn, sorry to hear....must of been tough Ste, know how much you was looking forward to this.
What lies ahead for you now mate, workwise?

One of them things, beat hundreds of people just to get the way right through the selection process and to the boarding at Cranwell. I passed everything they set and ticked every box they had, just wasn't quite in the top 0.1% who go onto be offered comission.

Right now i'm working for a Building Society but also passed an interview a couple of weeks ago and am about to start training as a First Responder with the North West Ambulance Service.

From there i'm hoping to go to University next September to do a Paramedic degree, and assuming I get accepted and subsequently pass the course my options then would be to re-try for the RAF (either in a Paramedic role or in the role I originally was hoping to join as) or stay a Paramedic on civvy street. As it stands I don't particularly feel I want to re-apply through the whole 8 month process again for the RAF just as I am, if/when I go back I want to have improved and developed somewhat.

Any idea what you failed OASC on? That should help with your next attempt. The criteria / testing processes are pretty well documented so it's usually something very specific you didn't do. Without significant RAF experience it's also much harder to get through OASC / DE when you're competing against UAS students with 3+ years experience (which is primarily geared towards teaching you to pass OASC, IOT, EFT etc)

Disclaimer: Was in the UAS whilst at uni so i'm reasonably familiar with the RAF for the avg civvie, and most of my friends either joined and now fly, or joined and bailed post 2010 and now fly Cathay/BA. I'd definitely recommend targeting a uni with a UAS attached, or very nearby.

Also, welcome back - keep the Zed ;)
