Here's what my Z4 is replacing......

So, I've gone and stepped into this century and (reluctantly) bought a Z4.
Here's why........

I've owned this Reliant Sabre 1800ti for 20 years.
I had no intention of parting with it but in two years time London ULEZ expands to the North and South Circular Road. That's me!

Reg 1994, there's no hope for this lovely classic.
This is a seriously modified car.
Hybrid turbo, intercooler, LSD, Straight through S/S ex. Extra wider alloys.
185bhp with a light chassis and GRP body it's lotus performance. Faster than the Z4!
Hard/Soft top.

I might have kept it until the law comes into force but it's in need of some work and there's no point investing in it any further.

I've not owned a modern car for decades. Previsouly a Reliant Scimitar GTE, a Middlebridge Scimitar GTE and now Scimitar GTC. This one I can keep as it will be 40 years old next year, will be classed as an historic vehicle, therefor exempt from all the regs.

My ownership of this line of vehicles dates back to the 80's so when I picked up the 2011 Z4 I felt like I was in a space ship! My classic cars came with just a heater and a radio.
I was originally looking at the earlier Coupe but ended up with the Z4 E89, it's terrific, it does things I had no idea cars did......
I realise what a relic I had become but I prefer to view myself as eccentric.

So here it is.......

Love that: kudos on ploughing such a distinctive furrow! Welcome to 21st century motoring: sadly much of it is less of an improvement than our ancestors predicted 😀

If ULEZ hadn't got me I'd keep the Sabre. I'm hooked on classics.
Here's the one that I get to keep.

The Sabre is a proper little cuttie. Going to be hard letting that go. :( Enjoy the mod cons in your new Zed. :D

I feel your pain  When I first came here I was mocked for not knowing the zeds had an electric roof. :D
Welcome - albeit reluctantly what

Such a shame you’re forced to sell that Sabre.... :(

However good to hear you like the E89....nowt wrong with eccentric’s,........unless they’re those off their heads bible bashing ones that don’t let up....... :P

Hope you enjoy the forum....Its pretty crap but what can you do...... :P :driving:

Welcome to the forum, I worry about places like the Ace cafe when all this bollocks comes in. Bloody London mayor trying to grab as much dosh as possible
Mind, their all at it, won't be long before we are all taxed of the roads :|

Thx Guys,
I get the agenda re smokey old technology but the cut off will make a hole in classic cars that will exclude classics from say the mid 80s to 2000. Who's going to garage it until then?
My Sabre is the perfect example, it's '94 reg would mean it won't be until 2034 when it is considered "Historic" and bypasses the regs (40 years old). That includes anything from late Ford Capris to Aston Martins.
Most of these cars simply won't exist, they will all be scrapped.

And just setting an arbitrary year is daft.
I could buy the same model of car, same emissions, same engine etc, but whilst an early one may be ok, the later one has to sit around and wait a few years?

Hi and welcome.

I really like your Reliant - shame you have to part with it just because of where you live! :(

But at least you are able to keep your GTC, which also looks great.

At least it sounds like you are enjoying your Z4 - we'd love to see it too!

The ULEZ regs will spread. They’ve got it planned for other cities soon.
I’m not against the overall concept but the blanket rules don’t work for classic cars and individual self employed that might find it tough to replace their van.

I’ve also heard rumours that the new PM might scrap ULEZ.
Although a instant bit of populism, in the long run that seems a bad move.
It would also be another ‘diesel’ type farce having compelled some of us to buy newer, less polluting vehicles only to scrap the scheme.

Nice ship. 8)

How long before someone decides it too is an earth killing smoke box though. :(
