Help with rattling noise please

From the video sample that sounds like classic lifter tick to me. If so, nothing to worry about. Just rev it at 2500 rpm for 2 mins and it should disappear. Is it the plastic grey topped engine?

Actually listening to it a second time with volume up it does sound a little more pronounced than lifter tick on the rev changes and the engine sounds slightly rough. When was the last service? Has it suddenly started happening/any loss of power etc?

It's a 2003 E85 2.5i. I thought lifter tick was only on the N52 engine?

Doesn't seem to be any loss of power and oil change around 3months ago haven't changed spark plugs tho

Just to add the heat shield has come lose also, so it probably sounds worse than it is but there is deffo a rattle from the enginge aswell

How many miles on it?
Hard to tell where it’s coming from but possibly the vanos pistons rattling?

Listened again and I don’t think it’s the vanos. Definitely sounds like something in the valve train as it is consistent with the revs. Oil level all good? What grade oil did it get when it was changed?
