Help with problem

Started car today and was really rough sounding, chugging and blowy sounding and sounded quite awful on tickover. Drove a few metres down the road and the same juddery rough sound, then the Engine Management Light (amber) came on and stayed on. So turned around and parked up...

What could this be? I'm pretty upset right now  Hoping it will be cheap to rectify.

My advice would be to try it again and see what happens. Sometimes the EMS can go a little loopy and once and while cause issues but if you switch off and on again it can rectify itself. That said there's possibly an underlying problem anf it could be one of many things so probably best to get it on a diagnostic computer and get the system sweeped. Good luck.

Thanks Inkey for your reply, I've done some searches on here and am thinking it might be a coil pack? In a way I hope it is that as it doesn't look to complicated/expensive/damaging! Just an approximate, how much should a coil pack cost to replace? Gutted as today was probably one of the last decent weather days for roof down and I missed it :(

Coil Pack number 2, all fixed and sorted for under £100; happy days... :)

Still a bit annoying though, thanks for your help tho peeps!

No Andy it was from a local garage that are trustworthy enough and know their stuff...I was tempted by main dealer / Indy but hoped it was a simple fix which it was! Bill was £88.80 (40 for diagnostics, 29 for new coil pack, 5 labour and the rest was vat!) The guy did say that I should buy a spare and keep it in the car, that it's a quick easy job to change yourself (as Paddy states) but it's knowing which one's gone!

To make me feel better (and a little bit sorry for the other guy) they had a Zafira in with exactly the same problem, although with that you can't buy them individually, they are four in one unit which costs over £350!!

Anyways, back to Happy Motoring :driving:

I've still yet to complete my 'Newbie' thread with pics so hopefully I'll do that this weekend as it's all up together now :)
