I have a 2003 Z4 with red leather.

Its slightly scuffed on the side bolsters so I am looking into using liquidleather scuffmaster kit...

Does anyone know what my red leather is called?

here's the list.... http://www.liquidleather.com/auto%20colour%20bank.htm#BMW

I always thought it was called dream red? :?

I thought it was dream red too. In fact pretty sure that's the color name in the US for that year.

I have brochures for both pre-facelift and facelift models. The colour code for Dream Red Oregon Leather is LAT5 and Dream Red New England Full Leather is LBT5.

Thanks for that then guys. LBT5 it is. (was told mine was new england upgrade - I presume thats what the stitching is down the centre of the seat).

Any idea what I can do then with my leather? They obviously don't stock dream red :(

I bought the repair kit from liquidleather. The kit includes a small bottle of solution for adjusting the colour. I think it will work.

Will a black mark be where the red has come off and the leather is actually black underneath?

I'm not sure, but I don't think the leather is actually black underneath.

nah, the leather is initially dyed so you would go to a white (the back side of the leather) after heavy wear, rather than black. You can't dye black leather red directly, you'd bleach it first, so again you'd go back to a lighter colour with wear. Either way you wouldn't have a black base colour. You'd then have a lacquer type layer over the top to seal the leather.

I would guess any black is a stain/mark/dirt left on the leather, it could even be a stain from a black leather jacket etc you've worn whilst sat there.

It will be difficult to dye that out, but I've never used those liquid leather products so don't know if that'll work (I'd guess not though). Any black marks I had on my old grey leather seats I have managed to gently pick off with a scalpel.

thats new england leather, not the standard leather - no idea what the colour is called though!

Just looks a bit dirty, try a good leather cleaner first as said above dark marks are not wear but either dirt or colour from other sources.

Thanks for that.. Im sure part of it is as you say and would be able to be removed as it does feel raised a little. Will go give it a try now.. Good to hear the black can come off though, then I can look at buying the red kit once the faded red colour is showing through.

yeah I should have asked if you could feel it being raised, that is when I have picked it off with a scalpel.

It will be dirt or debris of some description, so a bit of elbow grease will shift it :)

good luck ;)
