Help with Intravee...

Evening guys,

I'm looking to add iPod functionality to my Z4 and wanted to sense-check a few things before taking the plunge.

I have a facelift model without nav, standard (non-DSP) stereo, and a 6CD changer in the centre console. I'm hoping to keep the 6CD changer as well as the iPod if possible, I understand I'll need a seperate switch unit for this?

Do I need a unit like the Alpine KCA-420i for the iPod to talk to the stereo, or will it work without?

Currently my shopping list is looking like this:
Intravee II <-- AiNet cable --> Intravee switch <--> Alpine KCA-420i <--> iPod 5V Adapter (for charging whilst plugged in)

I know several forum users have installed these units, is there anything I'm missing?

Any tips on where to get the parts cheapest? Looking at eBay and ToysInYourCar.com, and it's looking like about £300 or so..

Cheers :)

I dont think you can keep the CD changer as the intravee uses them cables then goes to the apline 420 then to ipod

rich on there knows everything there is to know

the instravee switch allows other AI net things , so if you got a AI net disc changer yes you could have that, but not the bmw one to what i know

I got intravee from toysinyourcar, and kca 420 from ebay this came with both cables.

Depending on IPOD /iphone, and your skills in soldiering you can mod the 420 to charge i believe , its on that forum at top

Ah gotcha, that makes sense. I thought the BMW CD changer might be AiNet as well, looks like it isn't.

Thanks for the helpful link!

not that i know of the alpine 420 is ai net

rich will tell you everything, he helps develop the software

Alpine do a MP3/CD changer which is AINet. It was my first solution in an e39, using the Intravee, pre iPod Touch. It's the same physical dimensions as the BMW player but with the added advantage if being able to play mp3 discs. I believe you can have both the interchanger and an iPod attached at the same time.

I don't remember the product code but I've had one gathering dust in my garage for years.

Thanks for the responses guys. I finally found an Intravee on eBay and fitted it today, so I thought I would update my post with some pictures in case anyone stumbles on this thread.

The Alpine unit is hidden behind an existing metal frame.. I'm not sure what this is supposed to hold. The Intravee is stuck in place with velcro.

With a factory CD changer, it was relatively easy to feed the iPod cable through the gap above it and into the centre console:

Removing the CD changer seemed like too much effort, so for now it's staying where it is!
