Help! Scratch!

Hey guys,

Need some help. This scratch which is about 12" long appeared on my bonnet after I left some bellend hand car wash to clean the Zed. Never making THAT mistake again. It's not too deep, you can just feel in with your nail and need to know the best way to remove it. I'm not a detailer, but I'm willing to give it a try. Need to learn now that no one else is touching the car!

Looks like just a lacquer scratch... wash it, decontaminate the area (clay bar), then use a very fine cutting compound and elbow grease (or a DA) to remove it. T-Cut is a bit too abrasive, but could be used to get the worst out before you use a polish with very very fine cutting agents to polish back to a shine.

There are a number of products that can supply most of this, Meguiars Scratch-X for example. Its part polish and part fillers and its use depends on the depth of the scratch really.

edit: I've avoided the usual, wash it yourself tirade... I'm sure someone else will mention that for me ;)

Yep - x2 all of above.

Where abouts are you? Would be happy to help with my machine polisher and compounds.

Trouble is, once you polish that out you'll want to do the whole car as it looks soooooooo good

Hi itguy. Thanks for the offer. I'm in Bedfordshire. I'm going to invest today in some products and have a go at cleaning this baby up over the weekend. There's a few much lighter scratches along the rear bumper that will also get some attention. There's also 2 very light dents in the OSF wing that I need to get pulled out.

It's not fair really; If it stays in the garage it won't get marked, but then I don't get to drive it! The irony of the situation is driving me mad!

I never used to be precious AT ALL about my cars, now I've got the Zed, I'm paranoid. What's up with that?
