Help required with a Sensor

Hi There,

I've a 2003 Z4 Roadster 2.5i, which runs and drives beautifully expect it's been hunting quite severely only when it'd cold just lately. I've had the diagnostics on it and it's thrown up two fault codes. Firstly, there's the MAF sensor, which is pretty self-explanatory, but it also brings up the "Air Intake Temperature Sensor", now I'm not quite so sure about that one. Is that just to do with the MAF again or is there another part? If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

I'm pretty sure that the air intake temperature sensor is integrated in the maf sensor. Have you ever cleaned your idle control valve? I had a similar issue recently and it turned out to be the idle control valve. Just a thought.

Not as yet, thanks for the info.

I thought it may all be connected to the MAF as couldn't find any info on where another sensor was located or didn't know of any.

Oh, and if you do decide to replace the Maf sensor I have a genuine one taken from my car that is in full working condition. I dropped a 3.0 litre engine in mine so had to get myself the corresponding Maf sensor.

I may be interested depending on price. I did have one lined up from a breakers, but price depending I'm open.

The intake air temperature sensor is integrated in the mass air flow sensor on vehicles with engine management system MS45. A precision ballast resistor (NTC resistor) is used to convert the temperature into a measurement value which can be evaluated electrically by the DME control unit.

The intake air temperature sensor is not required for correction of the fuel injection period, as the intake-air temperature is automatically taken into account in the air mass metering. The intake air temperature sensor is set at the start procedure in conjunction with the engine coolant temperature sensor. The resistance values of both sensors supply exact information for calculating the fuel injection period. In this way hot start problems in particular are avoided.

The air column in the mass air flow sensor can oscillate during a start procedure. For this reason, the value output by the mass air flow sensor cannot be used as a correct value for fuel injection period. The temperature sensors are therefore used as a measured variable up to a freely programmable engine speed threshold.
 
The one I have is the 5 pin version for the MS45 ECU. Im pretty sure that yours will be this type but just check first. I paid £75 for my genuine replacement 3.0 Maf sensor from a breakers, the only one I could find at the time, so would be looking for this price?

I'll have to check that's the one, but think that's the right one.

I was quoted £60 posted from a specialist breaker.

Sorry, I have told you a complete and utter lie there, I've just realised that I had to replace the air box lid also to accommodate the new larger diameter 3.0 MAF sensor so that was also included in the £75, so I reckon actually £50 for the sensor would be about right.
 
Yes, its in perfect working order and like I say its a genuine unit. I will PM you further details.

The sensor has just been posted via first class recorded mail, so theoretically should be with you tomorrow, but I wouldnt hold my breath with Royal Mail this time of the year.
