Help please- water leak driver side

Hi,

It appears there is water leaking into the car on the driver side. I have attached a photo to show the area. I have placed a plastic sheet and some cloths to soak up any water in the meantime. I recently replaced the regulator and put a new membrane on. I have double checked that the butyl sealant is ok and I have removed the scuttle cover and cleaned out the drainage area.

Are there any checks that I have missed. I think I shall remove the door card again and pour some water to make absolutely sure it is not coming from the door... when the snow clears.

Could it be the weather seal?

Any thoughts? At my wits end with this one.

Sorry will try to get a smaller pic. Current pic too large to attach. But ... I have an update. I took the door card off and poured water from the outside. Water was trickling from the bottom of the membrane. Looks like the butyl sealant tape I bought isn't doing a good job. I shall find something else but at least I think that is the problem.

screwfix do a mastic that seams good. black and sticky. I used some on mine and it has been ok - well the door membrane has!! I'll have a look when I get home

Hi,

I picked up the butyl roll from BMW first thing this morning. Managed to get the old sealant off, loads of patience to avoid ripping the new membrane. Cleaned the door surface with surgical spirits and applied the new butyl to the membrane. Must say that the stuff from BMW is significantly tackier than what I used previously. Anyway, I was surprised that the adhesion to the door surface wasn't very good. Cut a long story short, the surgical spirits was the problem, it left some residue. So sorted the surface using fairy washing up liquid (diluted) and washing off with warm water. Thoroughly dried it. After placing the membrane back, the butyl stuck on how it should. Hopefully, the water leak is sorted. So I am sharing this so that folks can see the importance of prepping the surface properly to avoid waste if effort.
