help needed with loud ticking sound on 07 3.0si

so i went to view an 07 3.0si today with 30k miles and full service history. the car was great but there was loud ticking sound which increased in frequency as the revs increased. it wasnt like the tappety noise from tappets it was just a single loud tick tick tick. anything to worry about do you think :?

Bought an 08 3.0si in January and when I lifted the bonnet there was a distinct tic tic tic which sounded very like tappets to me (like the noise you get when typing on your laptop keys) - checked with my long term specialist and he said it's the sound of the injectors and nothing to worry about and have had it to him to check BUT :!:

There is a problem with the Vanos on some of these engines which has a distinct sound and is very expensive to have fixed - I don't know enough about this so I hope some more knowledgeable forumites will chip in. Check also on Youtube as some owners have posted clips showing the noise which may help.

It's a bit of a known problem on the N52 engine. It's probably the hydraulic valve lifters. Mine does it on start up only when I've done a number of short journeys over a few days. Then when I have a longer journey and get the engine up to temperature it goes away all together even on start up. It's something to do with oil starvation of the valve lifters but can't offer much more info that that. It hasn't been a problem that has effected my engine though. Just seems to be a bit of an anomaly.
 
Not an issue with the Pre Facelift models
 
HVA's as above. Unless it really bothers you wouldn't worry about it, despite all the topics on it I've still yet to read about any engine problems/failures arising from it.
 
Mine does the same but only when it's been parked up for a few weeks. When used regular it never seems to occur.
 
Going to drop the oil on mine the weekend and see if that helps.

Id rather know what's in there rather than what the garage I brought the car from have said they have done
