Help needed near Stafford!

Hi,

I have just gone to move my car and it sounded really lumpy almost like it's not running on enough cylinders and now then the engine management light has come on, I took it for a little drive and it was misfiring when revved had had little/no power. I have turned the car on, left it for a couple of mins, and then back on again and the light has gone off but the engine still doesn't sound too good.

My limited mechanical knowledge leads me to think it may be the coil pack, what are people's thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Russ

At the risk of sounding like a broken record.......... get the codes read first. Could be any one of several culprits.
Even if it is a coil pack you need to find out which one.

Thanks for the advice, looks like I need to purchase a code reader unless there is anyone near Stafford that could have a look for me.

If you intend doing any fault finding or maintenence yourself you need a code reader, a good compatable with BMW code reader will cost around £100 pretty essential kit.

Either of these two seem to be very much equal and recommended by other forum users.
I have to say though that the Autophix 5900 has shot up in price since I bought mine!

MAF sensors can also go which happened to mine.

I managed to borrow a code reader at the time.

Once you know what the issue is try giving Sam a call at BM Autoparts in Wolverhampton. I got my MAF from him and saved close to £100 compared to BMW and it was a genuine part.

(I'm also near Stafford)

Legend, thank you!

My first rough running problem was Vanos Solenoid bought the code reader pointed to the problem, cleaned them which fixed the problem. Code reader is as essential as spanners
