Hi all,

I'm doing a custom tablet install into my z
To do this I am relocating the head unit.
I've read reports that there's a way to tap into the audio system and reprogram the steering wheel controls...I don't fancy paying dealer prices for this, so wondered if anyone has the skills to help me out with this in the surrey/Sussex/Kent/london areas in uk.
I'm trying to hook the R/T button up to switch the mode on the stereo.

Any help would be great.
 
You can communicate with those controls by tapping into the ibus wiring (via the cd changer wiring initially). You can source some hardware to do this, or build your own, but you'll still need to create the android application to drive it. Do you have any hardware or software skills? Or that's the bit you want help with so you can focus on the install? Not sure how you'd get an acceptable tablet install in the z4 dash though :?

I guess what I'm asking is are there any owners in the areas mentioned who own the hardware to tap into the steering wheel controls.

Not too fussed about android integration. I have a tablet installed where the head unit normally is, so without the head unit there, I'd like to be able to control the volume and mode from the steering wheel buttons
 
Read tablet, assumed android, my mistake. The hardware is only half the battle though, its far from plug and play and will require software on the tablet to make it do anything useful.

I don't know of anyone with suitable hardware, although (time permitting) I will build something in the next few months.
