Help - headlight switch change caused airbag light?

Need help again, I had a damaged light switch (headlight/ fog light switch unit/ module) - the facia was falling off. It worked but I exchanged it for another one.

The old one was grey, and the new one is black (so from a newer car). Problem is I now have the dreaded airbag light on my dashboard? Any ideas why? I've tried to remove the fault code but no, it just doesn't go out.

Why would the light go one when changing the light switch unit?

Help!!

Did you disconnect any yellow plugs (seat, steering wheel, etc) without disconnecting the battery?
I also thought if you changed the LCM you would get a 'tamper dot' as the VIN is stored within it, and I think mileage as well.
These could be linked to the airbag issue I guess?

enuff_zed has probably pointed out the source of the airbag light comming on after the light switch change, it stores Vin and other coding info for the car in the light switch unit. If the coding in the replacement dosn't match your carn then its likely its upset other modules and in your case the airbag system. A good code reader should show the cause of the airbag light. Its probably going to be solved by getting the light switch coded to your car.
