Help!!!! Door won't open.

Hi All

Had a problem with a stretched bowden cable on my exterior door handle. I sorted the cable and everything worked fine. Checked it numerous times. Locked and unlocked and all OK.

Been out for a drive and now the door won't open from inside or out. Both cables seem to be pulling fine and I can hear them moving within the door. When I unlock the lock rod pops up and down fine. When I pull the handle from inside the rod pops up on 1st pull then nothing on the second pull.

Anyone any ideas on how I can release the catch so I can get the door open. I have removed the door card and looking inside everything is attached and moving correctly.

Many thanks. Jay.

Usually this will be a sticky latch mechanism, which needs to be properly cleaned and lubricated. When it's all gummed up the latch won't release when you pull the handles.

How to open it if the latch is stuck? I'm not sure, would suggest pushing/pulling the door while working the handles and see if if opens.

There's no guarantee this is the problem of course, but if everything is connected properly the latch itself of the only thing it can be. If you can get it open give the whole thing a massive clean up with carb cleaner/degreaser

bet it'll be the catch / latch bolted to the door pillar.. you can adjust these, and if they're out too far, the door wont budge.

when mine was wrong, I had to have someone keep the door handle open, whilst I applied foot pressure to the door from the inside until it eventually opened.
not a recomended approach, but it worked for me :|
