Help: Can I use 10W60 oil in my E46? *Resolved*

The oil I normally use in my E46 (330i) is Castrol Edge 5W30.
For some reason it is at the moment only available from the Stealers, in 1 liter containers. Don't ask me why.
I can however get Castrol 10W60 in 5 liter containers, which is what I normally use for the Z4MC.
Question: Can I use the 10W60 in the E46, or will I be placing the engine in danger? :scratchhead:
Temperature-wise it is now summer in our hemisphere and temperatures range from a minimum of +15C up to about +40C :icecream:

The 10W60 is currently recommended for use in our Roadster S engine, but only when high oil consumption is an issue. Personally, I wouldn't use it as 1) it saps power and 2) I really don't think the Vanos unit would like it. So I continue with 0W30. However, a very learned friend of mine is using 5W40 in a near 100k miler and reports it is giving superb results. Worth a look your end?

Oh, and I worked over your way in your summertimes too. Lightning storms, pollution, and yep working in a sweltering hot 40C. Aren't summers wonderful?

Thanks, will have a look if 5W40 is perhaps available. Needles to say, the 5W30 from the Stealer is expensive - so any alternative will be interesting.

Yip, you describe it perfectly  We even have the airconditiohning on for afternoon naps...

Find a mate who has got a Costo card, they have tons of the stuff and at the moment has an extra 20% off

Thank you, issue resolved - 2alpsade put me on the right track  According to Castrol South Africa's website, the 0W30 (no longer 5W30 apparently) is only available from the Stealers.
However, the recommended alternative that is distributed through the independent retailers like Midas (no Costco I'm afraid) is in fact none other than 5W40.

I was partially responsible for your pollution as my work involved Eskom and burning deposits high in carbon :fuelfire: in order to keep your aircons running!

I hope you charged them a suitable fee - Eskom is the utility company we just love to hate. Not sure if you understand Afrikaans, but here is a play on their logo and advertising:

They paid a lot for the machinery (it's definitely not cheap stuff) but I was there as a warranty-style trouble-shooter 90% of the time. So FOC to them in reality :tumbleweed:
