Help! Badges

So the badges on the Coupe are getting a bit tatty and need to be replaced, I was ordering some new LED number plate lights from BMW so decided to ask for the prices on a set of badges (Front, Rear and Sides)............ £161.80 :exitright: £40.45 each!

My question is, where has everyone bought their replacement badges for less than a kidney and your spleen?

BMW, unfortunately they were £35 each when I purchased them a few years ago.

The cheap ebay replicas don't last long before they either fade or get water damaged.

My bonnet badge needs replacing again, so BMW quality is also questionable.

Some sell their badges on here having 'de-badged' - you could put a 'Wanted' advert in the buy and sell section.

I've had good experiences with the eBay ones. The last set i put on looked great after 2 years (i sold the car at that point)

For a tenner every couple of years I'd go with that

2 of mine are the same, I thought the guy said £34 at Grassicks Perth the other week but that was probably without VAT. So probably the same price. I didn't get him to order them as I hadn't looked around. But I was a bit concerned about buying online and them turning up the wrong size or style. I did however colour the red stripes in with a pen so its not so noticeable from a distance. Close up it looks like I have coloured them in with a pen. I think the faded ones might not be genuine anyway. I will probably just hand my spleen over at the service desk if no one knows an alternative. One body part a month until either the car looks right or I havent enough limbs to get there.

See I was thinking this, I could stomach replacing £10 badges once every couple of years vs £40 badges!

BMW advised the badges on the E86 are
Front: 70mm (triple guiding pin)
Rear & Sides: 82mm (these are just adhesives (£40 for a 3d sticker!!!!))

I replaced *all* my badges on getting the car last August - with the exception of the front bonnet badge, they were all cheapy Ebay examples including the wheel centres. All have been fine generally, though there are at least 3 subtly different designs (all fakes ) for those that go on the side indicators (same as the boot) and one of them had a very thin edge which I didn't use. For the £5 it cost I wasn't that bothered.

The blue/white paint of the BMW emblem is easily scratched, but agree with previous comments that for the sake of 5 minutes work and £5, you can replace each badge many, many times before reaching what an official one will cost.

I had a further look at mine and the stripes on all 3 are definitely all just stickers. Are the genuine BMW ones enamel or something more substantial? If so I'm removing limbs and going genuine. If the genuine ones are silver plastic and sticky back platic then I may reconsider. I don't really want to order them at the service counter and knock them back if they are crap. But I suppose I will have to. I may have to take all the dogs though, so they can piss on their new dog basket and get a free bickie each.

i debadged my very un M 2.0.
i can tell you these are probably pucker, die cast metal with the exception of the strip M performance sticker which is thin aluminium.
the large one has lost 2 of its colours, inserts of some kind no doubt because it was fitted to the lower grill and had a harsh environment but the other 3 are ok. and with a clean up would be pretty good .

Id there a clear coat element to the badges? If so, wonder if you can just take them off, sand the clear down and re-apply some fresh clearcoat... ?

When I needed a new M badge for my drivers wing, I found BMW offered a lower price than I found on eBay at the time.

I've gone with cheap fleabay ones as advised in here all round except for the 73mm front bumper/ bonnet badge. Try finding a replica one of those :thumbsdown: . So I bought a pukka one & putting it up against the larger boot badge I really cant see much difference quality wise. As said, replacing regularly with cheap ones seems a no brainer to me .
