HELP! 2008 3.0si Headlight Scheme?

OK .. believe it or not .. my local BMW dealer doesn't know what the Z4 headlights are supposed to do at the different positions! His response was, I'm not sure .. we'll try to find another one and figure it out LOL.

I guess there is some variability depending on the user-settings .. but any idea what the default operation is supposed to be? I did buy this car used, 1-owner and just got it and it's still under warranty.

If someone could take some snapshots of their 2008 in the 4 different positions, I would greatly appreciate it. As it is now, I think they have the low-beams on when just the running lights should be on. As far as I can tell, the "daytime running lights" should just the the lit "rings", but they have the center light on as well.

With the ignition in position #1, I seem to have control over the lights .. for instance when I put it in parking lights (p#3), only the PL's are on .. off ((p#2) lights of off and on (P#4) low beams are on.

ignition "on" for engine running though .. the low beams are always on no matter what position the light switch is on. Also, my side disc-lights aren't turning on either.

Any help, pics or guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Geeze .. can't anyone help me out here? I think it's a pretty simple question ...

I think it comes down to "are the daytime running lights only the rings or the rings and a dimmed low-beam" .. and "under what circumstances/switch positions do the side-puck lights come on?

Thanks .. I would really appreciate some guidance here.

You'll need a response from one of our USA friends as the regulations are different for your side of the pond.

Try posting here

Is more US centric than this forum which "appears" to be more UK populated ( I say appear just in case membership stats say otherwise ) :)

It's in the Z4 FAQ (a sticky at the top of the Z3/Z4 forum) on Bimmerfest.com. The poster (Ron Stygar) has been very generous with both his time and resources posting documents and information for people to use. I'd recommend sitting down for a while and going through that FAQ material, which many others have contributed to as well.

thanks.

I delivered it to the dealer and basically said, "Here .. make them work like this" LOL. I swear, it's amazing to me that the std operation isn't in the service manual that they reference.

Got my first flat :-( ... big chuck out of the sidewall on the RF's. I knew it was there, but thought I'd get by.

US$350 installed/balanced from the dealer .. not too bad ..

Thanks again,

Angelo
