Does anyone know if you need a helmet to drive the 'ring?.I did at Donington, but have been told i don't need to at the ring. Does having a roadster make a difference as I know it does at some circuits. What say the experienced forum 'ringers?.

No, it's not compulsory and can even be detrimental on a tourist day as it can limit your peripheral vision and hearing - it is a public road after all and subject to the same laws as the rest of the German roads :P

If you've got a roll-cage then I'd say it was compulsory.

Ii would, just in case, you never know!!
When you go to the ring why dont you take a video and post it. That would be nice

Nah no helmets...

Be careful if you do in car filming, because it's banned (or was last time I went)

No helmets, but since most people drive it like a track, you might just want one in case the worse happens....

Of course, take it easy as the costs if it does can be prohibitive - but it's easy for the red mist to descend!

I've no idea why anyone would go near the place without one.

1. Get a helmet
2. Put +49 269 130 2215 in your mobile
3. Put a high vis vest in the car.
4. Read that website.

I've got my bike lid which I'll take.TBH I'd be more comfortable with one on especially if the roof is down ( which it will be).Now to have a goods look at the official website........( thanks for the link alanJ)

http://nuerburgring.de is the official site. AlanJ's link is from an old 'Ring veteran, Ben Lovejoy, who created an awesome resource of all the information that you need (along with some great trip diary reports). He doesn't visit much (if at all) now.

http://www.northloop.co.uk is another good site for info, and a lot of regulars post on the forum. Worth saying hi :)

When are you thinking of going? Just putting the finishing touches to our first trip of the year, over the weekend 21st to 24th May...

If you're looking for a place to stay, I can recommend the Blaue Ecke.

You also need to book a table at the Pistenklause for 'Steak on a stone'.

Nothing else is that important ;)

We're going out on the 30th April, coming home Monday 3rd May.Am booked into the Hotel Burgstube for 3 nights, at the foot of the castle pretty near to the entrance to the track. The steak sounds good I'll look that place out. There are 5 bikes and 5 cars in the group,my Z, a TT coupe,a 997 Porsche of some description, a TVR Tamora and a Lancia Delta Integrale. The bikes are 2 firebledes, an R1, a Fazer 1000 , a GS1200.Should be a good weekend. :driving: :D :D

Agreed. ESSENTIAL. And make sure you book, the place is tiny and filled with tourists within minutes of the 'Ring closing.

Thanks for all those tips. I'm off the last weekend in June with a trio of cars, my Z, a VXR8 and a Mini Cooper S Works.

Is there parking at the Blaue Ecke? Can't tell from their web site.

Yes, but the entrance is very narrow through a tunnel/archway and you can see plenty of evidence of cars hitting the corners.

If you want a quieter location with lots of parking and self-bred beef/venison, then the Waldhotel at Hohe Acht is quite good too, and give you a chance to warm the car up before your first laps of the day.

All this sunshine and talk of the 'Ring has got me itching to get over there again! Very jealous bigshurv! :D

I have to say, I'm getting really excited about it now its only 3 weeks away. It's not going to be a cheap weekend as my rear tyres are down to 3mm so they'll be totally fecked when I get back. Not sure how many laps I'll do, min 4 maybe more if I can fit them in and am happy to keep thrashing the car. Did 6 on track sessions when I did Donington, and I must admit, I was pretty tired after that and wouldn't have wanted to do any more.

People are generally very friendly in the car park, get chatting to a few - and you should have no problems going out as a Passenger with them. I'd certainly advise doing as many Pax laps as you can before you take yours out.
