Evening guys! Recently my daily driver (Daihatsu Fourtrak) failed it's MOT, so I've come to the decision to move on and get something slightly smaller and nippier. :P

I recently went to view a Z4 2.5i Sport Euro and did really like it. However when it ticked over on idle it sounded less than healthy. So I think that one might be a bust. But I'd like to hear what you all think.

Any advice would be appreciated 👍

Welcome to the forum James.

That definitely doesn't sound right! My very limited diagnostic knowledge suggests the auxiliary drive belt is damaged and/or rubbing on something, but hopefully someone more experienced will be able to help.

FWIW there are two different 2.5 litre facelift engines, the 2.5i with 177PS and the 2.5Si with 218PS so there is quite a big difference in performance if that matters to you. There were 2 trim levels, SE and Sport. The Sport had the very desirable M-Sport seats as standard, as well as M-Sport (lower) suspension and M-Sport steering wheel.

Good luck finding the right Z4.

The best bargains are available in the pre-facelift 2.5i arena. 192bhp, it’s no slouch. Super reliable M54 engine and plenty around. Pay on condition. M-sport seats are definitely worth having but can be easily retrofitted (prices around £600 these days). Other musts are xenon headlights and 10-speaker hifi.

I thought the same, or maybe a pulley bearing. It'd be nice if it was a quick fix. With 100k miles and that noise I'm hesitant to pay the asking price (4.3k)

I am leaning more towards the M54. Though I'm not really too picky.

Appreciate the help guys.
