Hello from 'Sunny' Scotland!

Hi folks,

I'm joining the Z ranks as I part with my 120i M Sport Convertible in sapphire black for a deep sea blue sDrive 35is. Seems a bit if a change but my 120i has been my tamest car to date and when I got it they were still a rare car, however not now.

My first car when I was 17 was a BMW built Cooper S followed by a FN2 Type R that was my track toy, followed by a 135i vert for a small amount of time then the 120i.

I come from a family who've driven Bimmers for over 20 years and my parents have what I can only describe as a 'forecourt' fleet so I have a nice choice when I fancy a wee change. I've not broken the news to my Dad that I'm buying one of his favourite cars because he recommended that keep my 1 series. Thinking that's because he's thinking of buying one as his next toy to replace his 5 series. Oops!

I haven't actually driven a Z4 be it a E85 or the E89, I did have the chance to drive a sDrive23i recently but I passed up that offer because I didn't want to ruin the experience of my 35is. As I'm sure most are aware it's not a common car and to find one of them to drive at a dealer is impossible!

Pick it Saturday Morning and can't wait to get my private plate on it. Thank to the DVLA local office closures I can't get it off in time to get in on my new car. Something nobody explained to me until Monday! If I had known I would of had the plate off prior to my trade. Oh well it's a small inconvenience, but a good money spinner for the DVLA as you need to pay more to put a plate on retention than just swapping on to a new car and the insurance comps get to charge you for making a change to your policy.

I've not had a great experience in the past couple of years with the local BM garages so this one is being purchase via a dealer 100 miles away in Newcastle so I've got a great wee run home to Edinburgh. I'm excited!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum

Nice upgrade and look forward to seeing some photos as we like photos on this forum

If you are interested in attending any Scottish meets, put your name down here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=55967

Will keep an eye out for you around Edinburgh

Cheers guys. The reg ends ANJ so you might just see me about. I'll have a look at the meets and make sure they don't clash with the other halfs ones as he's the GTR rep for Scotland and we both do their club clothing but I love knowing that I do the GTR thing but I'm from the 'Dark Side'.

Seriously can't wait. The drive up the A1 will be a hoot! Hoping the weathers not as they are currently predicting!

I've been putting off getting one for a long time due to the fact I can get quite a bit of stuff in my car currently BUT although I live in Scotland I love to have the roof down when it's not raining, I've even been known to drive with it down late at night. That's a problem for the E88 as BMW discovered that if the roof was put down more than 500 times it was catching and eventually this would create a hole in the roof.

Unfortunately this occurred on mines in August 2012 and I had a small bill to pay whilst BMW fixed the rest. However the garage that sorted it took a few attempts to get it right and since then I've not been happy with the car. Then suddenly I though why not? I'm 30 this year and look to be having a midlife crisis. New BM and new AP, but you only live once and you've got to enjoy it while it lasts

But pics will come. Don't worry

Welcome aboard.

As per your having a mid life crisis at only 30 years old.         Rubbish.

Welcome ANJ. . .nice to read the enthusiasm for a car leaping off the page.

Hope the reality lives up to expectation - I will enjoy reading about it in future posts!

Finally, hope you haven't dashed your Father's dreams. . . you'll have to reciprocate with the sharing of the 'fleet'

:driving:

P.S. Join the Scottish meets - they are a great group.

Hi and welcome from another Scot. I never had my midlife crisis til I was past 50. Still having it though and long may it continue :driving: !!!

Oh I know. It's just everything at once but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Could be a early midlife crisis that now goes on forever.

My mates just traded his E85 3.0si for a 635d coupe today and he's waiting patiently for a shot of my new beast - not sure that will be happening for a while! It'll take a lot for me to hand over the keys, apart from when I hand them to my Dad tomorrow when it turns up to visit them unexpectedly.

However as rare as the 35si seems to be there is one right across the road from where I stay in town that seems to have turned up recently

The alarm is set for 6:15am. God!! To be fair it'll be the other half having issues getting up so I better take plenty red bull and Mountain Dew until I can swap cars and wake him up Z4 style!

It's almost here. Rather excited and nervous for some reason.

Aaarrrrggghhhh! I've been up for an hour now and my other half is still not ready?!? Needs hours it seems to come too. Still sat in my living room and my appointment is 9:30 in Newcastle City Centre. This is where I wish I had taken up the dealers offer of a free night in the Hilton!

I'm coming a rocket ship, not going! Nightmare! I suppose at the end of the day I'm the one buying the car and I don't care if the car has to be outside for a handover. Last time I picked up the E88 it was a Friday night after work and it chucked it down so never noticed they had managed to damage the bumpers until the next day!
