Hello from sunny Ireland

Hi all,

New Z4C owner here. I've been hiding (lurking sounds too sinister) in the shadows of the forum for almost a year now (learning lots BTW, thanks very much), but having finally picked up my Z earlier this year, it's about time I made myself known.

Like many new owners I have questions, so so many questions, but if my time on here has thought me anything, it's that this-post-is-worthless-without-pics, so in time honoured tradition I'd like to introduce you to Mel Z

I've wanted a coupe for years, but they are uncommon, possibly verging on rare (although that's probably more relevant for the M) here in Ireland, so it's been a long journey as they're rarely up for sale (plenty of roadsters though).

As a result, this is originally a UK car, which I bought from a dealer in Northern Ireland, and moved to Irish plates for silly money (Irish VRT - if you know, you know).

She's a late 2008 build (registered in March 2009, so possibly among the last sold???) sport model, sapphire black, with beige/cream interior, nav, and brushed aluminium dash (which I will changing/spraying/replacing as soon as I get the chance).

Bought in February, but because of you-know-what, it's only been on the road since August (and will be sorn'd at the end of this month until early next year) During that time though I did the usual suspension change to Eibach springs & Bilstein shocks, reconditioned the ABS pump, oil change, some new bulbs, and a stubby of course (ducks) :fuelfire:

Plenty of plans, from wheels, to interior changes, to engine mods, but your guess is a good as mine as to when they'll be realised though.

Anyway, that's my lot. Looking forward to learning more from you all, and maybe even contributing some value along the way as well.

Welcome
Very nice, sounds like you are going to be busy
Some great (quiet) roads over there, whereabouts are you based?

Welcome to Zmadness … Nice looking car you have there. May the luck of the Irish be with you the time you own it.

Welcome aboard - at last.

But with photos in your first post and some modifications done already you'll fit right in on here!

Your Coupe looks fantastic - although I may be a little bit biased.

I think your seats may be Champagne which was Nappa leather and therefore a cost option, but it does feel better than the standard Oregon leather.

A forum member compiled a database of all 3.0Si and M models so you could find the build date for your car using the VIN - here's a link:- http://perso.numericable.fr/tonyz4c/index30si.html

Just make sure you enjoy it as much as you can before the end of the month. :driving:

Clearly the research has paid off for all of us. Pictures in your first post.

Spicy Z4 Welcome to the mad house. :)

Hi and welcome
Lovely looking coupe you have there.
We should have been over to Ireland on a meet earlier this year (1st time there) but Unfortunately it was cancelled due to Covid-19, hopefully that will be rescheduled for next year, It would be nice To see you there if you fancied meeting up with fellow members, I’m sure it would be a great long weekend driving around Southern Ireland :driving:

@obewan: I'm living in Kildare, so the midlands. Plenty of windy roads to enjoy, although I have to admit I'm still getting to know the car and finding its limits, so the most adventurous I've been is some overly enthusiastic tail out moments leaving the house. All in good time though.

@Mr Tidy: Thanks, I have a soft spot for black exterior matched with cream leather (the F10 in the 2nd pic is the same setup). That is a keen eye you have, it is indeed nappa Champagne leather - I was unaware it was a cost option, so feeling incrementally better about my purchase now. Great URL by the way - the build date is reported as July 08'. August 08' looks to be the latest date that models were built, so I'm almost an end of life special!

@Chippie: I know there are a few Irish members on here (definitely 2, possibly more), but no idea of the size of the actual Z community in Ireland. I get the impression it is not overly large so would welcome the opportunity to meet up with like minded members any time you are visiting. Hopefully the opportunity presents itself in the future, there's plenty of beautiful driving to be had here.

@everyone else: thanks for the welcome folks. It's great to see there's a consistent ethos here of welcoming newcomers. I aspire to maintain your standards.

(I can't believe the stubby comment has gone unchecked though. Either I've happened on the more sympathetic members - and the mob will be along later - or some of you are losing your edge......)

Hello and welcome.
If that's a stubby in your pictures then I'm glad you haven't got a whippy!

To be honest, with all the sad Covid tales around at the moment I've run quite short of sympathy.
If you have seen fit to change it then I really cannot be bothered to console you for your loss :poke: :D

Thanks enuff_zed, if only that applied in other aspects of my life too!

True enough though, there are far greater things to be concerned about right now.

(and anyway, I still have the whippy stored in the boot, so you'll have an opportunity to tempt me back to the other side at some point in the future no doubt.)

Hello Calps!

congratulations on the car and welcome to the forum!

I am based in Dublin and there are a good few Z4s in Ireland (we have a FB group too) and organized a drive and meet in Waterford in conjunction with another event.

Do contact me, perhaps we could meet with a few others once the inter-county travel restrictions will be lifted.

Attilio

P.S. any help to organize the "Irish Run" of this forum next year will be really appreciated!

Irish run!?! We're just doing the Scottish Highlands and have plans to do Ireland next year so it would be great to tie it in with whatever you have planned.

OP - I've heard the road tax is astronomical over there for 3.0 so make sure you get your moneys worth!!

Thanks Attilio, great to know there's some members nearby. Once we return to normality (whatever that will look like), it'd be great to meet some like minded owners. And who doesn't want to drive to the Copper Coast!?

Yes, there is nothing cheap about owning the car: from tax, to the VRT, to the insurance (we don't seem to have proper multi car policies here yet). And thats before I even consider what I'll end up spending on it to get it just to my tastes.

I went into it with my eyes open though, and do intend to keep it for quite some time, so I've no one to blame but myself!

Yes, we were ready to meet here in Dublin and then travel South and West ... will share the original itinerary.

Hopefully next year we will manage to turn the plan into reality. It would be great to meet again.

If you think the road tax for the 3.0 is astronomical, wait until you find out what is the road tax for the M!

Anyway, it is well worth it!

A

Lovely Z4C Calps! I also purchased a Z4C earlier this year, red with red interior. I’m in Cork.

I actually got to take it for a spin on the Copper Coast Drive one fine sunny evening in September 8)

I must also do the stubby aerial mod, where did you get yours from? So many different options come up when I’ve searched online!

So how much is the tax over there?
It’s based on engine size for cars registered Pre-July 2008. 3.0 litre engines are €1494 to tax per year. Mine is 2007 so that’s what I pay.

It’s based on CO2 emissions from July 2008 onwards. As Calps has a 2009 car he could verify this but a quick check on Google shows the Z4 Coupe emits 216g/km so it’d be €1200 tax per year. Any car emitting 225g/km or over is €2,350 a year!
