Hello from Portugal (Z chosen with pics)

hello,

I'm alvaro, and write from Portugal.

I am thinking of buying a Z4 and I have two cars in sight, both with roughly 10 years. But I'm in some doubt by what I choose.

first option is 2.5 190hp,
roof manual
heated seats
16 rims
AC manual

second option is 2.2 170hp,
with electric roof
seats unheated
17 rims
AC automatic

are both gray.

What advise?

p.s.: sorry my poor english.

CUREthe, Welcome along.

I'm not an expert, but here are my thoughts:

Manual roof - I'm not aware that any Z4 had a manual roof. Do you mean that the electric roof no longer works, and therefore must be opened manually? If this is the case then a new motor and install is going to cost around 1,000 euro
Heated Seats - Portugal is a far nicer climate to the UK, so I wouldn't be worried about having heated seats.
Rims - 17 inch rims (or even 18's) would be better, but you can always add at a later date.

Overall, and without any pictures etc, I would choose the 2.5.

But good luck with your search and choice.

Hello and welcome  good luck in your search.

thanks!

there was a continental option for a manual roof - it is why we have that catch over the storage box, they were never offered in the UK.

I think the roof is meant to be okay unpowered but that is a judgement for alvaro.

Do both cars have five speed gearboxes?
if one has six gears that's the one I would choose.

Everything else is easy to modify, but adding more power is much harder.

my friends say the same.

but I am very divided because of equipment each.

both cars have a 5 speed gearbox...

for me it's weird not having a modern car electric roof. but from what I've read forum posts here usually give problems.

Welcome :)

Would be the 2.5 for me, mailly as it's a Manual Gearbox and a few more HP. You could get some 18" wheels for either, when finaces allow.

Good luck with your search.

thanks for your opinion buzyg!

Opinions are those currently:

2.5 - 3
2.2 - 0

i dont know yet, but tomorrow I'll try the 2.5 :driving:

Welcome aboard sir

2.5i is bigger engine. More power, and will give you a bigger smile when you are driving. BUT! It will not be so good when you have to put the roof up and down manually :(

2.2i looks ok. But has the automatic roof.

Will you need to open/close the roof a lot?

Good luck either way 8-)

thanks for the welcome Adamski!

you mentioned what are my doubts. :?

I honestly do not know if I'll walk a lot with the hood closed. :driving: 8)

the car will have a garage.

The bigger engine is the one I would go for but the manual roof would put me off, so I would just wait and get a bigger engine model with an electric roof patience is the key :)

thanks Andy!

Today I went to see the 2.5. The manual roof left me disappointed. :(

Maybe go for the 2.2 is better equipped! 8)

...are also only 20 horsepower difference. :owned:

20 HP is significant ..... Can you wait for another to appear?

within the price I intend to give these are the best that are arranged.

Here in Portugal there are few Z4 for sale and most are 2.2 and 2.0. :|

The 2.5 and 3.0 are generally much more expensive.

...I look forward to buying my Z.

The 2.2 engine isn't as bad as it sounds. Even in an E46 it did 0-100 kph under 8 seconds(racelogic performance box, 18 inch with 255's in the rear) and 230 km/h max on GPS, that said, top speed is rev limit as they came with shorter geared differentials. The electric roof and much better looking 17 inch wheels and 1 year younger lower mileage car would be the one I'd buy. Is there a taxing difference in Greece? I remember lots of ppl on E46 fanatics buying the 2.2 instead of 2.5 and 3.0. I drove a Z3 with 2.2 and it felt perfectly fine, fast enough to have some fun with and still makes all the right 6 cylinder noises. The 2.2 loves to rev up to 6500 rpm whereas the 2.5 runs out of breath above 5700 rpm, performance wise there isn't that much difference. The 3 litre on the other hand makes it a whole different car. Considering your options, if you wanted a race car you'd have looked at the Z4M.
Given the 2 ads the 2.2 gets my vote :-)

and I can say I am very pleased and I think I made the best choice. :D

The engine sound is spectacular. 8)
