Hi all,

Just signed up, so thought I’d say a quick Hi and introduce myself…

I don’t own a Zed of any guise.... yet! But if all goes to plan i'm going to be getting a Coupe in a few months. Found myself doing a fair bit of research which has led me to this forum... So guess I should say a little bit about myself... in fact scrap that; let's just go with the car history. It's been pretty varied, so I’ll stick to the recent and more interesting cars…

Had a 2005 Civic Type R for several years. Spent a fair bit modifying it, including new ECU’s (lowering the point vtec engages, upping the rev limit) induction kit and exhaust mods. Saw peak power up to 220 from the stock 197, and a massive slug of mid range power. Pictures below…

It was my pride and joy, and I got a little bit OCD about keeping it clean (the joys of having a black car eh?!)

Sadly I had to sell this to fund a house purchase, so it went last year to be replaced with a ’04 Toyota Yaris T sport. Cheap insurance, cheap running costs and average 39mpg. Just what you need when you've bought your first house. Again, it didn’t stay standard for long, and it’s been dropped on Tein springs (35mm front, 38mm back), with front strut braces and fully poly bushed all round. It’s only got 106bhp, but weighs less than a tonne. Pretty entertaining car and I reckon it handles better than my civic did.

Recently had some success at work, which means I’m in the position to be able to afford to run a decent car. I've always liked the Z4 coupe, and didn't realise how much they've dropped in price (not good news for existing owners I guess...!!) Thought insurance would be a killer, but strangely it's only £50 a year more than my Yaris. Been concerned about reliability, but everywhere seems to suggest that the 3.0 engine is bulletproof, which is reassuring, as i'll likely be buying private (budget depending) It will be my first venture away from a non Jap car (well apart from a few bangers back in the day) so reliability and repair bills are a big factor! Well few more months of saving, and hopefully I will be joining the fold!

When the time comes, i'll be looking out for anything which isn't in Black. I'm not too fussed about options, as i'm used to pretty 'raw' stripped out cars (the technological highlight of the civic was Air con and heated mirrors), but rear parking sensors would be nice. Budget will be 10 - 12K, depending on rate of savings!

Anyway, enough of that look forward to getting involved here!

Cheers,

Shap

Welcome Shappers. A Zed doesn't come with any warning - it should do. All sense of reason is surrendered on purchase as OCD as you have never experienced it takes over.

Good luck with your search

Hey Shap, (or 'allreete me babber' )

Welcome to the forum, happy to hear you're going for the proper Z, none of this floppy top malarkey! I'm in Brizzle aswell (although not a Bristolian!), think I'm the only M Coupe owner here too! A great car, you'll love it! Hopefully I'll see you around in the near future in your Z?! Can your budget stretch to an ///M?

Budget probably would, but long term I think the costs would kill me!

I'm technically not a bristolian either (no accent thankfully!), from North Somerset originally.

OCD on here plenty......except we call it "Zeditis" :headbang: welcome, pics when you have your E86

Will do, it's going to be a couple of months I think, but good to have something to focus the mind (and spending!)

They're really not that expensive to run honestly, but then that discussion has been done to death and everyone has different opinions so I'll say no more! (Except, get an ///M :D )

If you fancy a spin in mine, just let me know, you're obviously fairly local. I reckon you'll soon be tempted to the dark side...

I'm from South Somerset so I guess that makes us both cider drinking farmers

Hello, welcome and good luck with the search, once they get under your skin the zed becomes obsessive.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Quick question; obvisouly the roadster suffers from seasonal variation with prices being a soft top... but does the Coupe suffer a similar fate?

Hoping to have the budget my Summer, but if it means holding off until October time to get a better deal, it may be more sensible...

Cheers :driving:
