Like many I come with questions, most of which can be answered with some searching but one in particular that I've just found no simple answer to so far ...

Are transmissions interchangeable between the N20 & N52?

I have a project in mind involving an N52 ... a spare e30 in one corner, an N52B30 with a crate of wiring & black boxes in another ... What To Do, right?

The ratios I like are in ZF's GS6-17BG-TAU 0.

1st (3.50:1)
2nd (2.01:1)
3rd (1.31:1)
4th (1:1)
5th (0.81:1)
6th (0.68:1)

I'd really prefer to use the double overdrive with a mild N52. This gives me the close spread I'd like 1-4 with 5th being a near-enough match to the G260's 5th, + one more gear for high speed cruising in this double-nickel-era machine - & it does it without monkeying around with a nice 3.73 LSD. I don't recall seeing these ratios quoted for anything but an N20 powered Z4, 228i, etc, but haven't yet found the simple yes/no answer to the question ...

Do the 2 engines share the same bolt pattern?

Thanks much, & now I'll go look for the appropriate sub-forum & repost ...

Blimey that sounds like a project and a half!

No answers I am afraid but welcome. I am sure someone will answer as a few have undertaken large projects like this.

There are online exploded drawings for finding part numbers but not sure if this would help you or not?
