Would like to take this opportunity to say a big "Hello" to all and have been trawling this site for a while and can honestly say it's the best bmw site by a fair margin. I've been a Z4 owner since April 2007 and the lucky car is a black Z4MC and admit that it is the most unsensible and impractical car I have ever had, but at the same time it is the most satisfying car to drive. I have had previous bm's before which were all tax-free (perks of the armed forces), the first was a 2005 330ci M Sport converible and then got a 2006 Silver M3 Convertible. Went through a phase of convertibles but wanted to get the stiffer chassis on the Z4. Trouble is, once you get the M engine in your blood you just cannot get it out of your system. It's the noise it makes and the rush it gives you, awsome is all I can say!
When the Z4 first came onto the scene the looks did nothing for me but when the time was nearing for the M3 to go I started to look around and thats when all of a sudden the Z4's curves and lines grew on me and that was it-had to get one. I even had the choice to wait a few months where upon I would have had the opportunity to get the new M3!!!!!!!!!! Must admit though, I have not made the wrong choice (the wife thinks otherwise), the Z4 gets more looks that any other car I have owned and is more entertaining to drive in its own special way.
I've been in the army for 12 years and belong to 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, a Welsh Cavalry unit. The regiment is posted to Sennelager in Germany but I am posted to the RAC (Royal Armoured Core) gunnery school in Lulworth, Dorset as a gunnery instructor. Will be returning to my unit end of July this year, cannot wait for that! The regiment is in Afghanistan at the moment on their first tour of that country, no doubt it will not be the last. We have done Iraq to death (pardon the pun) with 3 tours in three yeasr and that includes the last war. We were unfortunate to lose two very good friends on the last tour of Iraq....
I have been married for 17 years and have a 15 year old son who loves cars even follows me to watch the BTCC, shame the wife does not. We also have a dog so now you can see why the Z4 is impractical, luckily we've got an old VW Golf as the run around. The Z very rarely comes out unless the weather is right, friends and family same I must be mad to pay all that money for a car that is never used! True, but when it does get used I love it to bits and never get bored of it.
I will post some pics when I've managed to work out how it's done.
Good luck to you all.
Mikey
