Heineken beer (a question)

I'm not knocking English beer at all. I've sampled a few pints and have so far only disliked one beer (carl something or other-no not carlsberg) and even then it was drinkable.

Anyways, I've been craving some brown original bottle Heineken, the kind you get in Netherlands that is not imported. So my question is thus, is there anywhere's to get it around here? I haven't noticed any on base (I've looked). I've yet to look off base and was hoping ya'll could help. If I have to I'll cross the channel, but don't want to do that until I get licensed and all that good stuff.

If you can get a pint of Carling Premier give that a go (I'm not sure that they still do it mind you). Kronenbourg gets the thumbs up from me as well

Hmmm, I think it was Carling.
Not sure about premier or not though. I don't think it was. Maybe I just mentally didn't like it because I saw Coor's Bruwery (f spelling) on the label.

The supermarkets have a pile 'em high sell 'em cheap policy for most beers so on a Friday evening you'll see loads of spotty youths picking up three cases of Carling or Fosters for £20.

Most beer/lager is brewed in the UK under licence so if you want something imported you'd be better off going to one of the specialist off licences or beer shops.

Ok cool. That brings to mind a question, is there any kind of a customs checkpoint that I'll have to declare a case of Heineken's when crossing the channel?

I see you are in the RAF? If you can get me up on an Fighter Jet, I'll get you all the beer you want Sir!!

 If I would I could. I'd get myself on one too.
About the most I would be able to do would be to get you up close to one, but I'm not slated to be in a position to do that.

I grew quite fond of John Smith's bitter when I was in London a few months ago. I was only in London for a few days, but in that time I didn't see any of the English beer I've grown to love here in the states (Boddingtons, Newcastle, Samuel Smith, Old Speckled Hen, even Bass). It seemed like all I saw was the same five or six beers on tap at every pub (Guinness, Heineken, Carling, Stella, Carlsberg, Bud). Every once in awhile I stumbled into a place that had a good cask ale (like Fuller's London Pride), but it was almost rare when that happened.

Try all the local brews on tap,,,,,you will find a place and beer that appeals to you. Heineken throughout the EU/UK is quite similar and does not have the spotty taste that we get in the US. If you get a skunked beer, tell the barkeep, they are almost always willing to go the ends of the earth to keep you drinking in their establishment.

Try you local pubs and if you fancy a short trip to explore - The Minster Pub in Ely about 25 miles from you I think.

Did I hear Heineken?
Basically all Dutch beers are good, like Grolsch, Amstel, etc.
Also all the German beers are good.
In fact; all beers are good, hips.

Belgium beers are better. Because they make beer, we in Holland make pilsener.

I think the best pilsener is made (and invented) in the Tjech republic.

Within the EU countries, you can transport as much alcohol and tobacco as you want for your own personal use. However, and this is an important caveat, Her Majesty's Customs have a habit of illegally sezing alcohol they believe is not for personal use.

In theory, you could fill a van with hundreds of litres of booze for your wedding, but you'd have to prove it was for your own personal use.

Long story short (too late) you will be fine filling your Rover up with a bootfull* of beers.

* or even a trunk full.

Thanks Raify. I'll probably wait and do this in my car as opposed to the Rover. At least then I'd look cool doing it 8)

Get your ass to some Beer/Cider festivals too :D Theres one is Sheffield in 10 days... They crop up everywhere. The UK is famous for its micro breweries (i think we have the most brewers in the world!?) so if you want some culture, thats where its at!! You may need a beard to enter though!
