Heated seats question!

Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone has undertaken replacing non heated seats with heated ones.
Is it a DIY or is it not worth the grief?

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply!

The car that I'm thinking of buying is a 53 plate... Basically it should then be a plug and play.

Can anyone put my mind at rest though regarding the possible airbag issue as I have a 3year old who will be in the car at least once a week.

Or should I just leave this z and keep looking for a z with the seats heated already???

Thanks again...

There should be plenty around with heated seats, but if everything else is OK then go for it.

Re the three year old, I don't think you will find many Zeds with the airbag disable until around 2007 year models.

As (s)he's 3 years old, I presume you'll be using a forward-facing child seat - the advice from places like The AA is that there's no need for an airbag to be disabled for a forward-facing child seat but it's a good idea to move the passenger seat as far back as possible on its runners.

Mine has the airbag disable option (BMW build date of March 2005) - I thought it was standard on all cars with ISOFix...?

It is standard with ISOFIX, but that was an option hence why most don't have it.

Thanks,

The car is really nice, I think I can live without heated seats for a few months (although Scottish winters can be quite unpredictable) and try a retrofit next year.

I had the airbag disable option in my 53 plate TT but never really thought that it wouldn't be a standard issue where there is an airbag installed.

If there Is anyone else that has done the heated seat retrofit it would be great for any additional info.

Thanks...

I have just (within the last 48 hours!) done it. Picked up some red M Sports seats which were sold by a breaker who told me that he didn't know if they were heated or not (not sure if all M seats are?). I fitted them a few weeks ago on my own, and that took about 15/20 mins.

I finally got hold of a heated seat centre console switch panel (after a lengthy amount of time looking everywhere) and basically swapped them over plugged it in and hey presto! Turns out they were heated

If it's something you're considering, start looking for the heated seat switch panel NOW!
