Heated seats - How hot and how long to heat up?

As mentioned in my previous post I retrofitted some heated M sports seats today but unfortunately the fuse kept blowing so need to get that resolved. However, before things stopped working the seats didn't seem to get that hot and took quite a while to get warm.

How hot do they get and how long should it take? Also, do you have to be sitting in the seat for them to heat up?

It really doesn't take that long in my experience - the seats in my E86 start getting warm within a minute or two and after 4 - 5 minutes they get so warm I find I need to turn them down (unless it's absolutely baltic outside).

Nope, you don't need to be sitting in them for the heating elements to work.

I've had retro-fitted seats as you may know and they heat up fast and they heat up hot - put it this way on a cold day with the roof down I often find setting 3 too hot and knock it down to 1

on highest heat, i normally manage 2 mins, then switch it to middle for a few mins then lowest for 5 mins after that it gets turned off.

had it on high for about 5-10mins once then turned it off n just felt un-comfy for ages

Although had people in car who stick it on high n leave it there :|

Umm, it definitely didn't get to anything like that heat after 2 minutes :(

Maybe it had something to do with the fuse blowing as to why it wasn't getting up to heat?!?!?!

I recently did the fart test with my lovely ladyfriend laura;
Crank seats up to full heat and whoever farts first and wretches the most, wins!
Good test for effectiveness of seat warming imo....

Mine heat up way faster than those in my XC90! They get hotter too, which I love. All you wusses turning them down!

Mind you, I always have mine on, even in the summer, cold face with the A/C and a warm back!

Just wish I didn't have to manually turn them on every time I start it!

Mike

With the consensus above. Seldom put mine past 1 bar and they heat up in a minute or so. :)

Umm, slightly disconcerting then :?

They won't feel that warm if you're not sat in them when testing. Don't start worrying just yet

Thanks. I'll try to get to the bottom of the fuse blowing issue at the weekend and hopefully the heat will sort itself out.

Mine are retro fit and they are really hot. Only take 3 or 4 mins to feel them.

I always keep them on too, every day all weather. Just love them :D

Thanks for everyone's input here. I went out for a drive this morning and it took around 5-8 minutes to get up to heat but then when it did I had to turn it down as it got pretty warm :fuelfire:
