Headlights stopped auto leveling

Noticed on the way home my lights were very low, turned the ignition off when i got back and on again, has the auto levering motor gone, just a fuse maybe? Or could I have knocked something taking the DISA out yesterday?
 
there are two level switches on the car, one front one back. check that the arms are still connected between suspension and the switch. i think both are on the drivers side.

Not exactly, look at the suspension components, control arms and such. Take the wheels off.

Front one is still under the bonnet in a way? But I can't imagine how DISA work would be related to this, just coincidence.
 
Its not even flicking up an down when I turn the ignition on? just points at the floor, still definitely a sensor or something else possibly?

Is it possible I have knocked something out of or around the adjusters while taking the airbox out (for better access to get to the DISA) looks to be that the two screws are next to the airbox.

BluZiff, I hadn't really considered what's needed to access the DISA. :oops: The adjuster screws set the aim when in the correct position and are otherwise unrelated to the auto-aim feature. It's possible you may have jarred a connector loose or perhaps tweaked the entire assembly enough so that it simply doesn't work. Still seems unlikely, but worth a careful look for anything out of place. There's a motor for each light, so if they are behaving the same, the problem shouldn't be the motors, seems to me.

Besides the light control module/switch, the suspension sensors are the only other components. It seems to me the controller is not getting a proper signal somewhere, so refuses to work. Could be due to disrupted wiring or disrupted related mechanicals, or internal sensor fault. Wouldn't hurt to check the fuses though I don't think that's the problem. 4 fuses are involved, 40amp numbers 59 and 60, and 5amp numbers 14 and 23. Good luck!
 
Its booked in at the stealers tomorrow, I'm thinking I have maybe knocked the wiring loom for them as it runs right along side the airbox. Or its just coincidence.

Weirdly, when I got in the car to go home yesterday they did the up down test and returned to facing the floor. I got all excited, then :headbang:.

Guess I explain exactly what I have done to them an let them have a look.

Well, at least you know the motors work. That portion of the wiring should be OK too, so you can't take the blame with your DISA work.

I have had a really good look at whats going on, (cancelled the booking at the dealers). it would seem the suto adjustment in the left side lamp is working the right side is the one facing the floor.

So I think its new a new headlight motor, BMW said that they come as whole units so would be a whole headlight.....

A trip to RealOEM shows that the headlight aim control is part 67168352206 and can be found on ebay for £50. Assuming its getting juice in the first place, multimeter will tell all.

Now I just need some kind of headlight disassembly diagram and ill be hopefully able to fix it myself.
I am aware of the high voltage caps in these and ill be very careful, I just don't want to go in blindly unscrewing bits!
 
Here's a screen grab of the pertinent section from the TIS for removal and replacement of the adjustment mechanism. Probably not what you had in mind for disassembly diagram, but maybe it will help.
