Headlights - How much can i expect ?

Hi All,

I'm toying with the idea of replacing my Halogens for the Angel eye halogens previously mentioned in this forum.

My question is this - How much could I expect to sell my lights for ?

They are from a pre facelift 3.0i. The the ones with the chrome insert and orange indicators ?

had a quick look on ebay for headlights with completed listings option,they range £31 to £185 for 1 headlight!
 
Chrome insert, amber indicator, halogen is the bottom of the food chain.

Maybe £50 each on a good day.

Frankly I'd leave tyhem on the garage shelf then if you sell the car can swap back to OEM to tradi in and/or sell the replacements on.
 
Ha. Well, you'll be surprised...

I sold my old headlights (a working pair) for £350! I think I started the auction at around £300 and had a Buy It Now of £350, they went for the Buy It Now option a few days before the end. If they are undamaged and you get a photo of them working before you take them off, they can be worth a few quid as a pair. Worth a punt. Will only cost you a few pounds in listing fees if they don't go. I actually made £150 on my clear headlight conversion :wink:

Great price and of course shows the luck of timing if someone happens to need a pair

Actually I set my price after doing a little research. I think there are people out there who want to simply replace lights and don't want to deal with any damage at all. I spoke to someone else on here, Peddy I think, who got £250+ for their old lights. I think I was lucky getting someone to just buy it now.

However, a quick look and completed listings:

chester2000, there have been ones that have gone a lot cheaper, but do your research and you could do a lot better than people might think - it can be misleading as we're all after damaged bargains on here, we are not typical buyers! Just make sure you're a little under the trade sellers.

I always try to list using free classifieds as well,e.g. gumtree or freeads,take cash on collection or paypal prior to postage.

Personally I'd try and sell as a pair - I think there are people who will pay a slight premium for a set, rather than waiting on the off chance that another will come up when they don't know the price or when they might be available. But as CJ rightly points out, there is a good element of luck. Also, on eBay, don't bank on them selling first time out - I think I listed mine twice.

This may sound silly, but get them as clean as possible - front and back, and photograph the lot. Just as an example,I bought a facelift bumper which looked in good nick. Was in very good condition. Decided I didn't like it as much as mine, gave it a good proper clean and sprayed with QD, and then put it back on eBay, looking much better. Made a small profit - enough to cover the shipping.

Gumtree and the like are a good shout. I wouldn't bother on here, we're too well schooled in bargain hunting.
 
Chester - I too sold my halogens (black inners, amber indicator) on ebay. Put it as £350 buy it now or best offer (rejected a few silly offers :) mind you)

Only cost a 60pence or something to list and the person ended up coming to meet and paid cash in hand for the full amount! So definitely worth holding out if you can...Someone will want them surely! Good luck!
