I looked at the two options you have asked about when I was wanting angel eyes and also wanting to rid the ginger bits.
Looking at the photos, I would say you already have one of the options you have asked about. If not, the quality will be the same or very similar to what you have. When I was considering these options, the halos for a start are not very bright, the quality of the lights not very good and a few people had major issues with water getting into the light and condensation.
If you want better lights, I would say your best bet is to buy some working pre-facelift (with orange indicators) off ebay. Follow the thread on how to de-ginger so they look like facelift lights and then buy some halo's from https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/led-headlight-accent-lights/ and follow the guide on here to install. Change the bulbs to a set recommended on here. There's lots of advice and how-to's.

Consider a HID kit once you've sorted out the unit issues.
The lights in your photos look like 2Xcite/Sonar lights. Look for the brand name moulded into the clear cover in the lower inner corner of each unit.
I have fitted 2Xcite lights on my Z4.
The quality may not quite be OEM but they are fine. Mine don't leak or suffer from condensation. I fitted Osram Nightbreaker bulbs and they give good illumination in dip and main beam. I drive home from work in the dark every night and I haven't hit anything yet ! I also fitted Osram Diadem Mirror-finish indicator bulbs which flash super bright orange and Osram Blue sidelight bulbs which make the 'eyebrow' look whiter than in the photo. The Halos are not as bright as current BMW OEM Halos or DRLs but are clearly visible in all but bright sunlight. My own experience of 2Xcite lights has so far been good.

If you can get them working and also fit better bulbs I think you will be much happier and it won't cost you much either.

cheers for that, its the info i was after,the existing ones are lhd so not suitable as dont have the switch to change lhd/rhd afaik.
ill order new rhd ones and may be able to sell these on to the continent....
