Well didnt realise I had these fitted,until I watched a YouTube video on how to retro fit them

Always have the lights on Auto,so following the video I turned the lights on in the manual position and Eureka!!!

I have my lights set to auto. I spray the windows and the jets fire water onto the headlights (and all up the bonnet, annoyingly).

This seems more of a fine spray?

Actually, that's probably how mine work too. Haven't seen them from outside before!

I think all 3 litre Z4s had them as standard, but they are a PITA in my experience! Not only do you get streaks along the wings, but the covers are known to fly off, sometimes complete with the inner part of the jet.

One of mine was leaking and because they use the same reservoir I didn't have any screen-washers either, which isn't ideal this time of year!

So I got that fixed and have now pulled Fuse 40 so they don't operate any more! Doing a bit of research you don't need them with Halogen headlights, and even for cars with Bi-Xenons they aren't needed for the MOT unless the car was registered after some time in 2009 - which no E85/86s were.

I’ve seen some 09 registered e85’s? Can’t be many though :?

I've seen one 09 plate E86, but having rooted about a bit more it seems the significant date is September 2009.

So unless someone has a 59 plate one it isn't a problem for E85/86 owners.

I don’t that is correct. I believe the existing rules of xenon headlights must having working headlamp wash.

The 2009 rule is that any car with them fitted regardless of headlight that they need to be working.

that's why I asked - the question of legality comes up so many times on this topic, providing a source would help clear up any confusion.

It may not be definitive, but was answered by an MOT tester so I'd hope he was right when posting on a forum.
